The thread on the first litter of the year made me wonder.... what are normal garter birth sizes?

depends on the species....from around 4" to 8" butler's garter babies are around 4", oregon red spots around 7-8"

Do you mean individual length or do you mean the number of babies born?

.....litter sizes vary too.....red spots average around 7-9, easterns and plains can have 30-50 :cool:

I was referring the the amount of babies born, 95! That's a lot of mouths to feed!

I think it was actually 92, but that's not a huge difference. To my knowledge the record for any snake is 156.

my three litters have had 17, 15, and 22 all different females that were all 2 yrs (i think)

Did you brumate them before hand?

western species tend to have smaller litters and larger babies. I believe it was an eastern that had 92 babies....radix have large litters, larger ones can have up to 60 or so.... I hope my huge melanistic eastern becomes pregnant this year....should be a huge litter!!!!!
