I'm curious to see the answers you get to this... I have a few babies who have decided not to eat as well.
Did you brumate them at the same temps as the adults?

i have no place to get worms unfortunately the ground is still frozen despite the unseasonable 40 degree weather today
and there are no bait shops to get them because nobody ice fishes out here not that they could with the messed up high and low temps we have been having

Every year I have snakes that don't want to eat when they come out.I would'nt worry about it.I took my albino and my albino flame hets out a week ago.Only the one male has eaten so far. They have been breeding the whole time.Your snakes will eat eventually.

I guess if they don't eat soon try for another month.
Also, you could try live fish.

They'll just be getting used to being warm again ... ;) if they're males they might go off food after brumation because they're looking for a mate too. Have they shown any signs of approaching a shedding cycle?

crzy_kevo
01-04-2009, 05:27 PM
they are females and no there hasnt been any sign of a shedding cycle

infernalis

That may be why Kevo, See if they go into shed soon.

crzy_kevo

well like i said so far there is no sign of a shed cycle the scale plates on their heads dont have any gaps between them so i dont think this is the case

but time will tell

It can take a while for snakes to settle back into their regular rhythm after brumation. If they're not showing signs of weight loss I wouldn't worry just yet.

I wouldn't be worried in the least my dear. Sometimes it does take them a while!

Kevin, if you want to buy nightcrawlers, next time you get into the city, go to Bob's Bait & Tackle on Lauzon Rd.( just off Riverside Drive)
$2.50 a dozen -- big fat ones too!
I've been buying them for Chili, because she refuses to eat fish lately.

meadow will never eat coming out of brumation untill she has shed... then she will often eat the same night...... 2006-7 she shed 3 days after warming up and ate on the forth day... 2007-8 she shed 11 days after coming out and ate on the 14th day:)

Kevin, is there a walmart near you? at least my walmart has a little fridge in the hunting/fishing section where they have nightcrawlers. You should see all the people looking at me when they realize that the blonde girl over there has 7 containers of worms in her hands and that is all that she's buying.... I only use the self checkout now because I get asked so often what they are all for! lol!

I avoid self checkouts, They displace human employees.

Shannon, Canadian Walmarts are crappy. There isn't a single living thing for sale in there, other than the occasional sad-looking houseplant. Not to mention the 20 minute lineups, even at the self-checkout.

I avoid self checkouts, They displace human employees.

so do the illegal immigrants that make up 90% of the employees at my local walmart... and I don't support that one bit! And for another thing they always stare at me like I am a piece of meat, it kind of scares me....and I don't know what they are saying. I avoid them.

Yours has fish??? Well, ain't you special..........:D
Our east-end Walmart put in brand spanking new aquariums a couple months before they renovated and became a Super-Store. When the reno was done, lo and behold, there were no more aquariums.:confused:
Also no more fabric department. My other favourite spot. I hate Walmart.

update i finally got george to eat a piece of trout today i rubbed it all over one of the mice and that finally got her interested but wasnt enough for checkers to want a piece but this intrigued me so i picked up one of the mice and held it in my hand close to the snake tank and both george and checkers instantly started reacting tongues flicking like mad and they even tried getting closer but of course realized that mouse is way too big for them so if i dont have pinkies by next week i will have to do the unfortunate thing of kill the mice and cutting them small enough to be taken by george and checkers but im also going to get some pinkies before that i think just to make sure before i chop them up

Kev, my advice is to not cut the mice up after the die... Or even kill them at all. lol
My snakes HATED the smell of cut-up adult mice. And so did I.

I've been feeding my baby garters nothing but pinky parts. Its a little gross but doesn't smell at all. I use F/T, cut them and then thaw before feeding.

Just a heads-up. If you need worms in a pinch Canadian Tire will have them in the fishing section. Usually a fridge there somewhere, took me a few minutes until I realized I was walking around it while looking for it lol.. Man thing I think ;)
