very nice looking snake... is that a radix? I am learning...

I also love to see kids in pics with snakes.. Gavin really likes my Ball Python George. my other snakies are too small right now, for my son, so when they get bigger then he can handle them.

If you have a good long movie to watch mine love to sit with me or the kids and just hangout. For some reason they like to climb on my glasses and relax. They can't climb on my head because they'll just slide off.( no hair, not grease)

Steve.. I'm one of the people that can't sit through a whole movie.. I rarely sit in one spot for more than 20 minutes LOL I did sit with her for a bit tonight, but then dogs came in and I think all the comotition made her/me antsy.. I worry if she got lose one of the cats would deliver her as a trophy.. Not something I want. The kids all got a chance to hold her for a few minutes as well. She hasn't tried to bite, which is awesome and hasn't musked us in a week.

Please be extra careful with the kids and the enclosure. Kids have a bad habit of leaving lids off and doors unlocked. The young ones can also hold them in too tight a grip. They don't understand the concept of letting the snake work through your hands. Most pets and animals are held static. Not the case with snakes. I'm sure your aware of all this but a reminder never hurts.

:) The enclosure is in the boy's room.. I made it clear they're not allowed to touch it, they've spent a fair amount of time just watching her. I've really tried to use the fear of cats in them, my Ruby brings us all kinds of trophy's, mice, birds, gophers. IWhen Ally held her tonight I coiled her in one hand and had her cover her with her other hand, a nice warm cozy place to chill. Sam tried holding her head still, wich didn't work too well, so we talked about letting her find a place she's comfortable being held. The youngest, hasn't got to hold her. he just sits next to me and talks to her watching her breathe. "what a pretty snake you are"

My reminder post wasn't needed. Sounds like you're doing a great job! I can just picture the youngest whispering "what a pretty snake" Priceless!

It's all good Steve. I believe once you take an animal in you have a responsibility to care for it and respect it's life. Something I'm trying to instill in my kids. I can't stand it when people say "oh it's just a snake" or " I only spent 5 bucks for the lizard, I'm not going to spend $100 to take it to the vet" ( I work in a pet store and hear these coments everyday) I really appreciate all the advice and information here :)

Cute photos:) My cats go crazy when they see my snakes moving around. I had to buy a light fixture big enough to cover almost the entire screen so the cats would stop trying to open the cage and eat the snakes.

Yeah. The next place we move too will hopefully have a room I can devote to some of my more esoteric animals. Like my snakes and ferrets. And I know my wife is just dying to get a couple dumbo rats.

Simone is a lovely snake
the kids and kitty are also cute
cats are something else to deal with - ours are relentless
most of my cages now have large books and game boxes across them, so that those snakes that like to hang out on the rim under the lid have some refuge from cat claws

Ruby, sits and watches.. Simone watches Ruby. I find them like that just about everyday. Ruby will get on the dresser or the top bunk and Simone will come out and climb her log to watch Ruby. Or Ruby will sit on top of the tank, and Simone will climb up to see her visitor.

I have no doubt however should the snake ever get loose, she would be returned by one of the cats as a trophy. One of the cats has already attemped to asassinate the the guinea pig.

When I go to look at my snakes, I let the cats sniff.. my 2 cats are pretty good, I think they are more scared, than wanting to harm them. But I did find Jake once, sitting in front pawing at the glass..LOL

It's actually 3 pieces. I baught two when I set up her first tank, then a couple weeks ago I saw the third piece and it just screamed "I'm a reaaly cool piece of wood, you need to take me home" so I did :) LOL
Next time I clean her tank out I'll get good pics of each piece for you.. but then again I may find another groovy piece of wood between now and then.

Thank everyone,

Steve, if we could get the world to love snakes half as much as Caven does. Everyone would love them :) Ya'll should hear the Caveman, he spends time every morning telling Simone good morning, and talks to her in the afternoon when he comes home from school. Last night he was giving her kisses and saying how much he loves her.... It's truly adorable.

Zoe, Simone has grown since we got her a month and a half ago (feels like she's been here much longer). She's about 26-27 inches:)

As far as being comfortable with us, she doesn't care to be taken out. However once she's out she settles quickly. She greats me when I open her lid, but ignores me if I haven't any food for her :)
