It looks like you're getting the hang of it. The camera has many bells and whistles. It will take you awhile to get the used to it. It does have a macro setting for those close-ups. Sony.com also has some tutorials that might help. Enjoy.

It's not so much personality matches but more a knowledge of kinship  ... she didn't socialise anywhere near as much when she was with the concinnus they would spend 90% of the time at opposite ends of the tank ... now there's another Florida blue and all of a sudden they can always be found together approx 70% of the time sharing the same space.

with my big girls it seems to be more personality
Thing, one of the parietalis girls is always hanging out with Sammy, the Eastern, but hardly ever with Whizzy, the other parietalis, who is temperamentally quite different from those two
this is when all three are housed together

There would be plenty of space on my hard drives, if I deleted all the stuff I shouldn't have. ;) The one thing that bothers me, is the lack of a media that would be practical to use as a backup for a terabyte or so of data.

Nice to see you have the same problems I have. I get a herd of radixes coming at me when I open the front. They rush up to see if there's anything to eat. Sometimes they just come out to say Hi. I have a couple that go up my arm and sit around my shoulders and neck. Not looking for food, just wanting a little time.

Beautiful concinnus. But of course, they are all snakes and therefore beautiful. Very handsome adult rat snake too.

Also love the stack. Personally, I think it would look a bit better with more full spectrum lighting. Maybe 15 watt per stack. Seems kinda dark.

Thankyou :D.

Part of the lighting seeming dark is the lighting in the room and the camera at the time. Our living room has velux windows so we have plenty of natural light during the day. I have recently replaced the bulbs and do find the newer models a lot brighter (they have a clear finish rather than opaque), still at 11W.

Since it's called a picture frenzy, I don't want to steal your spotlight but I have to share. Found this beautiful Lampropeltis triangulum on craigslist. She was only asking $25 with housing and undertank heater but she's having a hard time financially so I'm giving her $50. Going to get her in just a few hours. In know, she's not a garter and will never replace my love for garters or concinnus, but still a beautiful addition to my household.

Interesting ... I think ... Xerxes, my adult male concinnus has been loosing his red colouration for a while now. At first it was just a gradual fade from red to orange but now it's taken a new turn . The past few sheds he has been loosing the orange colouration from his head ... in fact, it's almost completely gone .
This is really interesting when you factor in that the father was Hans' "green" concinnus.
Here are a couple of recent shots of Xerxes head.

He's approximately 1 year and 6 months old :D ... it will be interesting to see how much the orange will fade over the next few years. It's quite a contrast to when he first arrived.

He always had a greenish hue on the top of his head but his lovely red face is a thing of the past. His dorsal stripe is still a very light lime green (it never comes out properly in the photos).

None of my concinnus ever had much red on their faces/heads at all. And when I say red, I mean orange. They've always been orange. Mine were Multnomah Co/Clark Co. origin. Unlike Benton Co. OR individuals they are known for the lack of red on the head/face, very high blue on throat. Like this:
http://www.californiaherps.com/noncal/northwest/nwsnakes/images/tsconcinnussr05head.jpg

The blue took time to develop though, and neonates generally start getting that around 1yr old.

Looks like that one might have the orange fade with age to end up looking a lot like the Multnomah co. snakes. Also, photo's don't pick it up well, but the blue is actually blue-green in person. At least that's how it appears to me.

No, it shows it. I don't know how many times people complain that their pictures aren't coming out the right color when it's not the picture that's the problem. His stripe is definitely lime green. The problem is usually the monitor settings it's being viewed on. As far as printing color goes, that's a bit more complicated but the color control panel applet from microsoft solved that for me: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppowertoys.mspx

Concinnus in my area vary. Some stripes are very yellow, some lime green, some appear whitish. As far as that greenish throat goes, it's blue/white around here or blue/green.

That's a great photo contest theme but probably far too challenging for most members to come up with in a few weeks time. That's why I have lots of great photos I will probably never get again. Saving them for just such an occasion! An observed 'perfect circle' has happened with my snakes perhaps once or twice this decade!

Reportedly, A Perfect Circle is working on new material. If I were you, I'd find a way to submit that photo. It's not beyond the realm of reality that it could end up on their album cover!

In prep for brumation both J and Slithers have started their first day at lower temps (they will move into the cupboard on Sunday).

A few observations - Both Panama and Kink have increased their confidence.
Panama ate with the enclosure wide open and the other girls in full feeding frenzy. She's back to tweezer feeding regularily and can be seen a lot more ever since the other two came out of brumation.
Kink is coping well. I've noticed that he doesn't use his rib muscles for locomotion at all below the site of his old injury. He's also been out in the open a lot more of late and today I was able to touch him and gently pick him up in the enclosure.
:D Happy days.

I have a question, as Greg mentioned tweezer feedings and people have recommended I use tongs to feed Selena. I can't get the squirmy little worms to stay on the tweezers and I am not sure what kind of tongs people are referring to? I do not have hemostats either.

These are what I use - 10 /25 cm Stainless Steel Reptile Feeding Tweezers - Straight - The Cornish Crispa Co. (http://www.cornishcrispa.co.uk/1025-cm-stainless-steel-reptile-feeding-tweezers-straight-p-444.html) you'll probably find a USA equivalent ;)

Drug stores / pharmacies

Things must be different in your State.
Those are considered a medical device in Iowa.
They are also considered drug paraphernalia if present with illegal drugs.
Sent many a person to the Gray Bar Hotel for those.

ConcinusMan
01-10-2011, 03:39 PM
Makes sense then, that I saw them at a place called "...Medical Supply & Pharmacy"

Not all hemostats are medical devices, just like not all tweezers are for medical use. Specialty tool shops and some hobby shops carry them. Seems they are not a medical device if they are not sold as such and come with a disclaimer "not for medical use"

You can get them online too, medical grade or not.

"They are also considered drug paraphernalia if present with illegal drugs."

So is any other tool if it's used to facilitate drug use.

Not true in the eyes of the law. At least the law in Iowa. Then their is the enforcement. Paraphernalia isn't the same in everyone's eye.

For example: I've never heard of any law enforcement officer charging "drug Paraphernalia" to some roach head that smokes his dope with a pair of pliers.:)

Without clear supporting evidence of the illegal use, it would be unconstitutional to prosecute someone for "possession of drug paraphernalia" for having a pair of hemostats. (with the supporting evidence, the law doesn't apply any less to a pair of pliers than it does to hemostats). In other words, you have nothing to worry about.

Horse pucky! He's not trying hard enough. I tried to help. I asked for a pair of hets. He said no way. I also want red radix. He said no way. I sent him over 20 concinnus' and asked him if he would be willing to share a few with deserving people who can't afford to pay for them. He said no way. He's hoarding them!

Those radixes are making up some funky stuff for you to believe. Those radixes have a hold on you... You are crazy. :D

I think you're on to something.:p

He's like the crazy "cat lady" but with snakes!

I honestly don't know how he does it. Just 15 or so total snakes keeps me busy enough, and costs plenty to take care of. And mine don't even get vet care! last summer I had over 50 babies to take care of, in addition to my adults. That's not near as many snakes as he has, and I was pushed to the limits of my ability and available time, to take care of all those. You know what it's like to try to feed that many babies daily, all while keeping them from fighting? It isn't easy, and takes a lot of time.

 The yellowish tone is provided by the in tank lighting. The plate of glass covering the energy saving spot develops a yellowish tinge over time. It wants to attract dirt seemingly.

ConcinusMan

Yes I know, but most cameras can compensate. That's what the "white balance" setting is for. If it's not set correctly, pics taken under an incandescent are too yellow.

If I did that with the babies, Snap and Ember would be out of there before you could say "Nooooo!"
Ember is always curious, and because of that, he likes coming out of the tank when I leave it open. He'd want to explore all day long if I let him.

With Mama an Snakey's tank though, they know not to come out. They just stay in there calmly for me to come out, praise them for not escaping and close it. :D
