I was wondering if I can house 2 of the same sex snakes together. One is an albino checkered garter snake and the other is a black and white california king snake. they both are still young and they are like a 2 -3 inches part of hieght from each other. can i house them together wether they were 2 boys or 2 girls..??

The Cali King will one day eat the garter.

King snakes and milk snakes will gobble up garters. Most any smaller snake is lunch to them.
You will be much happier keeping the King all alone. I keep a few milks and a corn, they live alone.

ok so there are two threads so ill put it here too...
that's definitely a realllly bad idea. In fact... you should never house any snakes together period unless they are one of the few communal species such as garter snakes, ribbon snakes, water snakes... etc.
King snakes, corn snakes, pythons, boas, rat snakes... mostly ALL snakes should be kept alone seeing as they are solitary animals that require their own space to thrive and be stress free. Garters though tend to do better in small groups.
Basically what I am saying is you can house two garter snakes together if they are the SAME species, or the same sex of two different species. If you house two different species of garter together of opposite sexes, you could get hybrids (not good)
And yes, kingsnakes eat other snakes... that would spell major trouble for your garter!!!

I must agree with the previous posts... although it is fine to keep Garters in groups, they should never be kept with King Snakes..... King Snakes eat other snakes as a part of their natural diet.

In agreement with the others bad idea... you will loose your garter to the king!! King snakes are snake eaters. In fact, it happened a week ago at my local pet store when a careless new employee let a baby cream sickle corn in with a baby banded king. The corn was to big of a meal but the still did not stop the king... it ate the corn, could not digest it and regurgitated it 2 days later!!
