Hmm. Did you catch it? If so where? looks like it's an Eastern. Or maybe a Wandering Garter. I have an Eastern Gartersnake with green coloration like the snake in those pictures.

Hey Lee,

looks like a Thamnophis elegans vagrans to me. Especially the two rows of small black dots on either side of the back and the relativly big head are typically for those snakes.

Best wishes,

Daniel

definitely looks like a wandering garter, thamnophis elegans vagrans. Got tons of them here where I live! Nice snakes too, have quite a variation in there patterns too...

I'd have to guess T.e.vagrans as well....but....I'd do some scale counting just to be sure (everyone knows how much I love to count scales! ). From what seperates T.elegans from T.sirtalis is....number of upper labials; T.elegans has 8 with number 6 and 7 enlarged. Also, the internasals are not pointed at the front. It's hard to count the labials in the pic, but the back ones do look enlarged....and the second pic really looks like the colour pattern for T.e.vagrans. Is it a wild caught snake and if so, from where?....that'd help in the ID.
