Ingredients? I'm confused. Just plain, raw salmon.... no dill sauce or peppercorns required!:D
The snake in the picture looks like a Ribbon... but that's not your snake, right? Does it have a white scale directly in front of the eye?

garterguarder
12-18-2008, 04:48 PM
no i think it may be the north western garter

adamanteus

There is no need to worry about experimenting with different foods.... as long as they are suitable foods. Try the salmon, also trout. It may even accept pinky parts straight off, worth a try.

Plain, raw salmon is a good starting point. Although I find my Garters take trout more enthusiastically, other people may have other opinions, but I use trout a lot.

Orange speckling is often indicative of ordinoides (Northwestern).
I have found ordinoides eat a higher percentage of worms than many other Garters.

I guess so, but you risk passing on internal parasites from wild fish. Store-bought trout is pretty cheap and easy to find.

So, to summarize.... it seems you have a Thamnophis ordinoides (Northwestern) but photos would confirm this.
Variety in feeding is a good thing, although your snake will happily feed on worms, it's a good idea to supplement this with some fish.... trout, salmon and tilapia are good options.
A multi-vitamin supplement might be a good idea until the snake accepts a more varied diet.

Yes, powder is fine. I use 'Nutrobal', it may well have a different proprietory name in the US. Just a good reptile multi-vitamin.

Here is the product I like, it has all the essentials, and it is a spray, just a quick mist over the food, and its part of the diet

No it's an indication that your snake has been without water for a bit.

In the winter, the water bowls evaporate dry almost every day.
