I just bought kingsnake.com Classifieds (http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?de=651580&cat=53) which i had to pay for half myself. my other "presents" were 1.1 pugets a pixie frog and 1.1 het for anery red sideds. All of which i payed for myself but i guess my mom considers me being able to keep them the "present" part.

Dwarf Monitors, a Mini Chomper:D

The varanus acanthurus is a medium sized member of the subgenera Odatria. They are also known as Ridge Tail or Spiney Tail Goannas. The Red Ackie (acanthurus acanthurus) can reach lengths of 24 to 30 inches. It usually has a longer tail and is a reddish brown color. While the Yellow (acanthurus brachyurus) is usually 15 to 24 inches in length, is a yellowish brown color and has a more slender body compared to the Reds. They are found in dry areas throughout Western Australia, Northern Territory, and parts of Queensland.

Or what Reed just said.

A lot is going to depend on the current disposition of the Ackies themselves, from what I perceive by reading the advertisement, they are adults already, so you have already missed out on the chance of raising them to be accustomed to you as their caretaker.

Lizard leashes are rather cheap, so it would not hurt to try, They may already be completely adjusted to human interaction.

From what I gather on the monitor forums, the camp is divided there about handling just the same as it is with snakes, Some keepers say do not handle them, let them be monitors, if you want a dog, go get one.

And others will say that you should handle and interact with them every day (I take this side obviously) however it has been observed that monitors are rather social animals, and Chomper is a solitary captive, so we are his interaction:)

I am going to contact Frank Reets at Goanna ranch, he has some excellent photos of his MANY monitors interacting in great ways.

Cool, then your chances are far better of "Bonding"

Chomper is out roaming the house right now.

If I intended to keep anything other than Garters (which I don't), these would be very high on my wish list.

Do you guys think a 4'x2'x2' cage is good for them as adults?

It sounds a bit small. The care sheet I have says 2x1x1 meters for a small group.

thats 6.5'x3.2'x3.2' ! i looked up online and found two caresheets that say 4'x2'x2' is good for a small group, they do only get 2 ft max

a small group?
my plated lizards were in a 4'x2' cage and that seemed just adequate
I wouldn't put more than a pair in a cage that size
