It was supposed to be a lovely day. I got up and caught an early train into Bath to do some Christmas shopping. I even managed to get my hair cut before wandering across the Christmas Market.

Then I strolled into a shopping centre and heard somebody screaming at the top of the tall escalator, followed by the most awful sound as I saw her falling all the way to the bottom! She was conscious fortunately, though surely badly hurt and there were many people helping so I didn't want to get into the way and left, shaken up and crying on the phone to my daughter.

Somehow the Christmassy mood was gone so I made my way home.
Opening the front door I almost stepped into cat sick...I dropped my bags as I realised that this was a hell of a lot worse than I first thought...There was one of my lovely adult garters, bitten into two pieces. I got slightly hysterical and picked up what was left of my little friend, nearly freaking out completely when her tail twitched despite being disconnected from the rest of the body. Somehow she had managed to squeeze through the doors on the viv, despite the 2 locks and draft excluder.

I really just hope that's it for the bad news today. :(

I had a day like that once. On the bus coming home from work I watch as a guy on a bike was plowed into by a speeding car. Then when I finaly got home my cats had smashed one of my grandmother crytal bowls on the floor cutting my lino flooring......and my foot!!!
The image with be with you for a while but it will fade. Sorry to hear about the loss of your snake.

Oh, Esther. I wish I could console you. I wish there was something to say to make you feel better.

My heart's wrapped around you, breaking. My arms wrapped around you, too. I can't even begin to imagine the pain and loss of your beloved snake. And the loss on top of what you'd seen shopping.

Please know I do hurt for you. What little help that can be.

Thank you so very much, all of you! You are amazing.

My teenage son, who has Aspergers and thinks very logically, said to me: "Mum, you think YOU had a bad day...just think of the woman who actually fell down the escalator!" How true!

I feel very sad about Zuki, the garter and am now a little concerned about her friend, Zulu. I don't like bothering her at the moment as she is blue, but I did take her out yesterday to check on her and she sneezed a couple of times. I increased the temperature in the Viv after reading up on treatment. We don't have a vet with particular reptile experience close by, as I don't drive I'd have to take several buses and it is so cold out that I worry I'd do a lot more harm than good. Any suggestions?

well..... if you have no problem going and are just woried about the cold you could use those hand warmer things.... the little packets that you stick in your pockets..... that would heep her toasty warm:D

I realised that the lock had come lose, shame it took such an awful event to notice. It's all tightened up but I am really paranoid about all the vivs now and find it hard to relax and enjoy my pets. I reorganised the basilisk viv today but I was so scared of him running out, I just wanted to cry.

Zulu is doing fine now thankfully, she's active and ate tonight. I would have sorted something out regarding the vet of course, taking the handwarmer might have actually worked. Will keep it in mind. :)
