:)I know that today isn't Thanksgiving. I didn't know how busy people would be with family and other important things. So I jumped the gun. Have a Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow, also:)

I'm not quoting the poster's name, because this is something you hear every single year or every single time you've run into some form of adversity. This post isn't directed at him in any way.

be thankful for what you do have and not cry over what you don't...life is beautiful if you take the time to enjoy it.The more you try to enjoy what you have, the more things you see that you really can't be thankful for.

Not to mention that I still stand behind my comment from 2007:

I'm not thankful for much, since I have this silly idea that there are no truly unselfish acts. :) So whatever I benefit from, was never intended to benefit me specifically, but is merely a by-product of somebody elses selfishness.
So who should even be thanked?

And to that I'd like to add, that attempts to get me to pretend that things are right in this world, piss me off immensely, as I consider it an attempt to get me to look the other way when people are screwing me (and other people) over. Even if it just is for a single day. In fact, I propose that we start a new tradition. For one month each year (a day isn't enough for this one), everybody should think about all the things that are messed up. That's how you bring about change.

Anyway, happy Thanksgiving to those of you who want to enjoy it. :)

well, I guess, originally it was about food, right?
there's nothing wrong with being thankful for good food
in fact every time I eat excellent food I am thankful - just wish Thanksgiving could be one of those occasions . . .
and who am I thankful to? sun, dirt, rain, wind, bees, farm workers, the food co-op, the cook, my dentist - something like that

And please don't colour me Mr negative, I'm going to back Stefan on his statement.

It's only through facing what is wrong that we can do what is necessary to set things right.

Today I am thankful for the people in my life that make the journey worth taking, and the food:)

However, we should be thankful for that aspect of our lives every day.

Maybe it would be more accurate to say, I am willing to put the creeps of the world out of my mind for a few hours while we break bread;)

I also give thanks to Thamnophis dot com for its diverse pool of intellect and great spirited people who chose to gather here and socialize as well as provide a healthy distraction from other events that need to be tuned out from time to time.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!! I'm thankful for all my friends here, who have helped me to be the best snakey mom that I can. And I'm thankful that I've been given the ability to help as many animals as I have... everything may not be right in the world, but in my little corner, it's as right as I can make it. And today we are all having a happy, relaxed, fun day. :-)

Austin, If I could I'd give you a couple Radixs for your mom's birthday. I've got plenty. Last count 82 babies from 16 days to 7 months old.

Life can be grim at times, work, money or personal issues can swamp you and leave you exhausted. I think it is so important to take a little time to recognise the things you are thankful for, whether you're thanking God, or family and friends... whatever.
There are a lot of bad things in the world, and of course they need to be addressed... we have 364 days a year to work on those. For one day each year, we should look to the good things in our lives and be thankful for them.
I know Thanksgiving is very much an American tradition, but I don't think we non Americans should dismiss it so readily. We all need to feel good sometimes.
I'm thankful.... I'm thankful for my family, who love me even when I don't deserve it. I'm thankful that I live in the relative prosperity of 'The West'. I'm thankful for my friends, many of whom are right here on this forum. And I'm thankful that even in the face of such negativity, there is joy and beauty to be found in the world.
I'm just glad to be alive.:)

James, I couldnt have said it better. Sure, maybe our lives arent perfect....but i think we can all say that we have it a lot better than most of the world. That is something to be thankful for i believe. Thankful to who?.....who cares. I'm thankful that my friends and family put up with me. I'm thankful that to have never had to wonder how I would acquire the means to survive like much of the world has to. We are pretty fortunate.
