Well, I've had a little time on my hands and with the help of the good folks at "Cuisinart" I was able to design a simple yet effective device to tackle that ever nagging problem of Brumation. Now, for the first time offered a professional Brumator. With 8, yes I said 8 preset temps. Taking the guess work out of Brumation. Brumation is as simple as opening and closing a door. With its Brushed Stainless look and its elegant lines. The Cuisinart Professional Series Brumator will make you the envy of all your friends. Made for the discerning Thamnophis fan this device is at home in the family Herp. room or in the livingroom. It is also equiped so that you can set your own temp. zones. Now that's versatility! Call now and receive free shipping. Call in the next 10 minutes and we'll double your order. You heard me right, call in the next 10 minutes and you'll receive 2 for the price of one. Simply pay the shipping and handling fees.
Thanks for looking. Hope you enjoy my little endeavor. Of course, this was just for fun:)

Since we are all having some fun here...

Ever wonder about those TV ads that make statements like "Act now and we will include absolutely free of charge this wonderful bonus item, just pay the additional shipping and handling"

Since the phone numbers are toll free, try this it's fun...

Call them up and pretend like you want to order from them, but ask if you can pass on the "free" bonus item.

Tell them you have no interest and ask if they can "remove" that "extra" shipping and handling charge.

You may be surprised by the answer....

Of course, if I tell you what they say, the fun of doing it yourself would be gone.

Symptoms of Pogonophobia - Fear of beards:
breathlessness, excessive sweating, nausea, dry mouth, feeling sick, heart palpitations, inability to speak or think clearly, a fear of dying, becoming mad or losing control, a sensation of detachment from reality or a full blown anxiety attack.

There is a Way Out
Imagine what your life will be like when you know that you are not "defective". When you can be confident and at ease in situations where you used to feel your phobia. And when you can talk about your former fear symptoms as though you are describing a movie where the character is someone else, not you.

But wait, Act now and recieve totaly free your choice of 2 additional phobias, Just pay shipping and handling:cool:

Never meant to "hijack" your thread Steve:D

There for about an hour, James and I were the only ones on the forum.

Tell you what, Why don't we use this thread for silliness from anyone who wants to contribute...

I did see that you popped in and out a couple times during that...

Thanks Shanley. I may be from Iowa but I do know what "Merge" means.:) LOL I just didn't know what it meant for the thread titles and things like that. Being a Deputy we have a standing joke around here. How does a city cop spell farm? E I E I O

No worries Steve, Every single one of us is "guilty" of silly ramblings from time to time.

The only downside to "its so quiet" the thread bounces all over and loses continuity.

Mind bender:

3 men go to a motel to get a room. The desk clerk tells them the room will cost $30. Each man pays $10. Later the desk clerk realizes he made a mistake. The room should have only cost the 3 men $25 total. He gives the bellboy 5 $1 bills and tells him to refund it to the men. On the way to the mens room the bellboy is confused. He doesn't know how to evenly divide $5 among 3 men. Here's what he does. He gives each man $1 and keeps the other $2 for himself.
This now means each man only paid $9 for the room. $9x3=$27 plus the $2 dollars the bellboy kept = $29. Where is the other $1? Have fun and don't be mad at me.

Hint:Everything you need to solve this problem is given to you in the story. No. it doesn't matter what the men were going to do with the room!

If you solve this problem please hold your post of the answer. We don't want to end the suffering to soon.

infernalis

The answer is in the math, do away with the story part.

does that help anyone sort it out yet?

Just remember, anything ending in a 5 cannot be equally divided by 3.

The answer is in the math, do away with the story part.
That's one way to say it. The simple answer is that the storyteller lies:
"This now means each man only paid $9 for the room."

Just remember, anything ending in a 5 cannot be equally divided by 3.15/3=5, 45/3=15, 75/3=25, 105/3=35 :D

it's really quite simple
the two bucks the clerk pocketed are the difference between the $27 they ended up paying and the $25 which was the cost of the room

guidofatherof5
11-26-2008, 09:42 PM
Interesting explanation. But incorrect. That still doesn't explain how they started paying $30 $10 each got $1 dollar refunded Each payed $9x3= 27 + $2 the bellboy kept= $29 Where's the other $1 Remember this problem started with $30 Try again Rhea. Thanks for playing.

each person had to have payed more than $9.... $9.33:D

They paid 9x3=27, which includes the $2 that the bellboy stole. What's missing from $27, is the $3 that they got back. Not one $ is unaccounted for.

drache
11-27-2008, 04:51 AM
the thirty bucks is what they paid originally
then they got three bucks back, making it $27
the two bucks the clerk kept were the difference between the $25 buck for the room and the $27 they ended up paying for it
the room cost $25, they paid $27, the Clerk kept $2 - 27-2=25
so if you want to take the thirty into account, then 30-3=27; 27-2=25; 2+3=5 (can't believe I'm doing this)
so where are you missing a dollar?

guidofatherof5
11-27-2008, 06:18 AM
Making $25 out of the numbers you have is the easy part but doesn't explain the missing $1. $30 paid..... 5 dollars refunded.... Now, the total money paid is $25 Keep an eye on the $5 refund. We must account for it. $3 was refunded, right? and $2 was kept by the bellboy. So we can see the $5! This means each man paid $9 for the room..... Always account for the $5 refund. 9x3=27 with this we can see the $3 that was refunded to the men, right? now we add the $2 the bellboy kept. There is our $5, $3 refunded and $2 kept. But 27+2=29. Where's the other $1.

The $2 are already included in the $27, there's no need to add it a second time.

drache
11-27-2008, 07:17 AM
thank you, Stefan
why are you adding the $2 to the $27, Steve?
they need to be subtracted, because they're not in addition to what the three men paid - they're simply what they didn't get - They paid $27 instead of the $25 - he pocketed the difference
the $30 you keep referring to - well, let's take it from there: $30 minus the three the men got leaves $27, right? then minus $2 (for the clerk) makes it $25
I'll never make a good teacher; I have the impulse to shake someone
