well i haven't been on here in a while. I still don't have a garter either. but i did get something as close as it gets. a Striped Keelback AKA Indonesian Garter Snake. I have been wanting one of these little guys forever. I was in petco last night looking for a new filter for my fish tank. You just have to walk by the snakes if you are there so when i did i saw 6 little snakes poking their head out of the eco earth labeled at "garter snake". I HAD to snag on up. I really want two if i can house them together? think i can? should i go snag up another one? on a side note its funny how many people working at petco are terrified of snakes:eek:. oh yeah i will post pics later on when he gets settled

Nice score!

I wish our local petco would get some of those.

yeah, you can keep several together
they're a lot like garters, but they're egg layers

I am using eco earth as substrate...and the humidity is like 80...anything i can do to lower it or will i have to use different substrate?

You must have just "reconstituted it" today...

The Eco earth will dry out soon, and your humidity will go down a lot.

If you let it, Eco earth will dry out as it was when you got the "brick"

It will just be powdery instead of hard.

I use a lot of Eco earth.... Great stuff.

That's a handsome keelback you have there.

That is one gorgeous snake. I really like! Darn, darn, another for my list.... I LOOVE the "zebra stripes" on the tummy!!

I can't believe you found these at Petco! Is he eating for you yet?

Nice looking snake! Just a word of warning..... Xenochrophis vittata can often be heavily parasitised, when first acquired. Might be worth a check-up.

So in theory... if properly quaranteened first, etc... could these live in an enclosure with garters?

in theory i suppose they could live with garters, but for sure make everything is on the up and up with snake before even thinking about it
