Ok so I'm trying to feed the big hernia as Gertie calls her to get her to eat.. And this is the 2nd time I try to feed her..
So I thaw out the rabbit get it all nice and toasty warm.. She's been acting like she wants the rabbit for days now.. I throw it in there make it do a little rabbit dance like Shannon tells me to do right?? WRONG!!...
She's all looking at the rabbit then looks at me strait in the face like makes sure eyes are locked and at first it's look like YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.. Then it's as she looks back at the rabbit that I'm still doing the dance with then gives me that GO TO H E DOUBLE Hockey Sticks look and sliters to the farthest side of the cage away from the rabbit!!!!..
My husband the whole time is watching me snoring with laughing behind my back says well would you look at that.. I'm like what? He said she just told you off.. and goes back to what hes doing..
Now you really don't feel dumb till a snake bigger then you looks at you with that look and is like why do I ever converse with you humans you are soo below me..
What did i tell her as I was walking off?:
Your Welcome Your Highness Princess Isabella!!!!
EDIT:
And now I feel EVEN dumber because put this in the wrong section.. Move please lol

What if you didn't dance it at all?? Does she prefer to find it in her own time?? I've no idea, just wondering...

I know nothing about boas... When did she eat last - maybe, since it's winter, she's not 'hungry' yet...???

Lori, you nut! I'd never even thought of a pug! LOL!
I was visualizing a LIVE rabbit (gagging) hopping around in there. AND - have you ever heard a rabbit SCREAM? Hattie, bar the door! Loud and SHRILL. YIKES!!!

Gertie, I hear that sound a lot. We have a large population of wild bunny wabbits living right in the yard.
When the coyotes get hold of one it sounds freaky.
Ever listen to the sounds a rat makes when a python grabs them?
Or the sound of a crushing skull as a monitor lizard bites down?

Maybe I'm weird, I can sit here and toss live prey to my animals all day long....
But I cannot sit through ANY gory movies:eek:
Folks are always trying to tell me how cool "saw" or similar films are, cannot waste my time trying to watch that crap.
Cuz I'm too busy watching my monitor crush skulls:cool:

Wayne, I can totally relate!
The gory movies do absolutely nothing for me, other than make me feel ill. Chopping snake food up with scissors is not a problem at all, though. Go figure...........

Natalie, do you have a feed store near you? They often have rabbits or at least bunnies. How about a comercial breeder? Rabbits are yummy :)

I care about all animals, Heck we even have pet mice and pet rats.
I often sit and play with the hopper mice while I am feeding them and such, However I like my reptiles a "few clicks" more than the fuzzy little rodents.

I was thinking the same as Tami- maybe the agricultural approach will be more productive- feed stores and the like.
Also, have you thought about just trying a live large rat (with supervision) ? It would be a small meal, but still a meal.

If the snake is eating rabbits, I would stick to them for now simply for the fact that the snake may become "addicted" to other prey items and not want rabbits anymore. This happened with my carpet python and she will NOT touch a rat no matter what I do. She is addicted to mice and had been before I purchased her.
Natalie, a few questions for you. What size cage is the snake in, and how long is the burm? What type of method are you using to heat her and what is your substrate?I couldn't seem to find the other thread with this snake in it. If she is truely a female I am pretty sure she should be pounding anything you offer her.
Have you considered feeding pigs instead of rabbits?

its the one she came in till we get taxes.. its the 6 foot long by 3 1/2 foot wide by 2 1/2 foot tall vision cage... she's between 13 to 14 foot.. there's a heat panel on the top on the left and 2 under the tank heating pads the ones from boaphile the ones that thin wire things under the left said so she has a whole left side that is heated.. with a thermostat.. the right side is cooler for her.. I mister her 2-3 times a day to keep her humity up..
right now substrate is news paper for quatine precausions...
she also has a 2 1/2 foot long bowl of water so she can get half of her body in at a time to bath and drink..
havent tryed pigs yet..

I don't know if I missed some posts but it looks like Gertie just called herself a wussie because she can not handle the rabbit & pig stuff. I don't think she said anything bad about you.???
I hope your surgery goes well. I will be thinking of you Monday:)

Natalie! NO! Honey, I wasn't talking about you! (Thanks, Zoey!) We've gone from rabbits to piggies and I just can't handle it like you guys can. I AM a wuss!!!!!
I'm a big fat baby. I just get these mental pictures and can't shake them. I mentally understand and accept the food chain; my heart just has a mind of its own and won't buy into it.
(((((Natalie))))) and I, too, will be having good thoughts of you Monday.

my only suggestion for now is to not offer food again and just completely leave her be for two or three weeks, gives her a good chunk of time to herself and allows her to hang out for a while unbothered. She can probably sense that she's not in the same place. Not sure if you guys have been doing a lot of handling or not.
my other suggestion is as soon as you can, move her to a much larger cage, seeing as that one's entirely too small and she's most likely very cramped!(and I am not blaming that on you of course, just saying that in general)
so that leaves me torn... she probably should be able to come out and stretch every now and then... because she is folded in half constantly, but then again she probably would also benefit from getting a good 2 or 3 week period alll to herself....
