Well.... my heart pretty much stopped anyway when I opened the tub and saw that. I mean... i literally thought he was dead!!! then I saw a tongue flick. I went from being SO sad to laughing hysterically in about 3 seconds... it was an emotional rollercoaster. I have a somewhat dryer sense of humor than most people, in fact my sense of humor is probably far more dry, desensitized, and twisted than your average person.... so the title does not really bother me... if it went too far...sorry if I made you upset wayne!

well... I probably wouldn't do THAT... but I am somewhat a desensitized individual when it comes to emotional attachment to things, epsecially my snakes. I love them a whole whole lot but i always keep in mind that snakes can be unpredictable at times and some things are out of my control. I had to put down my best colored non-oregon unred spotless tonight, he was only half the size of the other snakes I got with him and pencil lead thin. It made me sad... but i kind of saw it coming pretty early on.

I love my snakes to death... apparently, Sledge tried to show me the literal effect of that.

well usually he is a pretty average little hoggie... I am not sure what the heck i could have done to scare him almost to DEATH! I jstu opened up the tub and thee he was! upside down and covered in his own urine! upon realizing he was faking it.... and calming myself down... I wiped of the urine and ran for the camera and he was still like that when i got back! So then I decided to test what I had always heard... that hognoses will "die" all over again if picked up and placed rightside up. Turns out.. its true! he even gapes his mouth as WIDE as he can and sticks his tongue out and lets it hang limply... which I didnt get to photograph before he stopped.

my boyfrind happened to look over my shoulder at me cropping the first picture before i had said anything and he went OH MY GOD what IS that?!

Now we have sledge's upside down smirk on ourlaptops, AND our cellphone backgrounds.

Also, it's not normal for a Hoggy in captivity to do what Shannon's Hoggy has done. They just don't go belly up on their own; CB - and WC that have been in captivity any length of time (over a couple of hours) - just don't do that.

I for one, dig this thread. Twice- in two different locationa, within one week my Jeep was broken in to. Stereo gone. iPod gone. Steering column mangled. This week kept getting worse, and it's only Tuesday! Job is grinding and it's all I can do not to pass out right after dinner. I log on here, and see this. Just as I think that Murphy's Law is affecting everyone- I get the worst case of the laughing fits than I have had in a few months.

Baby hognose snakes are easily frightened and will play dead. Even c/b adults will if frightened. I've raised hogs before and most of the babies did it, so I knew what was up as soon as I saw that it was a hog. Very cute photos, I never caught mine in time to take a picture.

Jason, sorry to hear about the Jeep... sucks... always worried about that with my son's, too. Just bought him new soft door uppers 'cause someone slashed the old ones before we bought the jeep. Can't say it hasn't crossed my mind how cruddy it would be if these instantly met the same fate.

My Hoggies have never done the usual Hoggie deal of playing dead. In that Shannon's lucky, I think.

I think what it was was all the emotion - the sadness and grief on behalf of Shannon, as well as myself. And so many deaths here lately where the comfort we give each other is deserved.

All the emotion turned to shock when I finished and realized it was a joke. Shannon has been known to post graphic pictures in the name of education and I could see her having done that in this case.

I was hurt and felt betrayed. I don't know if I can justify that - that's just how I felt.

Yeah, I do love my Hoggies. I'm so glad Sledge is okay. It would have torn me up had something actually happened to him.

Sledge is hilarious!! I always find it fascinating that a little creature who can't even blink can be so expressive. The sheepish look on his face at the end is priceless!:D:D
