I need some help guys. ):
I just got done making some new "vivs" for my herps out of 30 gallon rubbermaid rough neck bins. They're tilted on the side so the "front" of the viv comes off and is screened; problem is there's a little leeway between the lid rim and the container rim. So of course one of my snakes has escaped. Twice. I've found her *my big parietalis*; once in the bathroom at about 10 yesterday and 5 in the morning today. So I need some ideas for what to put between the lid and the rim to "seal it off."

How about flexible self-adhesive draught excluder? Like you might fix around a door frame?

You know James... I might actually have that around here.

Ace - Ace Tree: Home Goods: Storage & Organization: Totes, Carts & Drawers: Rubbermaid® 31 Gallon Roughneck Tote (2244CPDIM) - 9 Pack (http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3212000&cp=&sr=1&kw=rubbermaid&origkw=rubbermaid&pg=2&parentPage=search&searchId=38833367824)
Take that, flip it so the top is cut open and facing towards you with screening, and over the "side" put metal screening for the heat lamp. So it basically looks like it fell over. lol

Yeah, I think the draught proofing strip would work a treat!

Oooooh you tip it sideways... right? And then look in thru the lid which is now the front?

Another excellent idea (which I noticed in Sid's photo comp entry) would be to secure the edges of the lid/front with bulldog clips.

Got it- thanks.
Yeah, I've debated about building cages that way in the past myself. Never tried it though.

yeah, take the pic in his link, shrink the window down and put it next to his description of the cage, and then it all makes sense. :)

Kyle, I know one thing I have learned in building racks is that for some designs, specific tub make and model is critical. For one rack I built recently, I searched for the right tub for months. Seemed as every tub had something not quite good enough about it, often it was a crappy fitting lid.

I don't think a baby could fit between there now. (Thankfully.)
Yeah, I was kinda ticking off my dad with my choiceness at Target. lol

Okay, here it is, with clips and ex-escapee added. (You can't really tell the clips are there. :P )

Clip.

And the screen is hot-glue gunned on.

Who would ever have guessed that THIS forum would ever host such an excellent and 'on-topic' photograph of a bulldog clip..... I love it here!

aaahhh, I've got those and have used them with tubs myself
let me warn you about the glue-gun stuff
it can quit holding when it gets older, so keep checking it from time to time

This I understand.
It happened once with the screening on my roaches. Not fun.
