I have 3 young ones I kept from my large eastern litter this year that until about 3 weeks ago were eating like pigs...then NOTHING. A couple of weeks ago 2 of my students brought me in radix young that are also very healthy looking, but they also refuse to eat. Is it advisable to brumate young snakes who obviously have no desire for feeding at this time? If so are there any differences from brumating adults, and how long should I let them "chill"?

Jerry, if they were on their on in the wild, they would burmate. I have burmated young, but held it to six weeks and then warmed them back up and they went right back to eating. Treat them as you would an adult and you shouldn't have any problems.

Sounds like good advice. Access to water, check on them periodically(once a week, more or less), change water regularly. They should do fine.

I lost one of the little radix while brumating:(, the other four (1 radix, 3 easterns)survived. After a tense couple of weeks with no interest in food they are all eating like pigs...:D. I will post pics when I get a chance.

The radix I have left is a somewhat shy eater...it will only eat if I put it in a small tub and close it where it can't be seen. Not a big deal though, it's a beautiful little snake.
