Not sure who Jerry is but thanks. 12 was the total. No Jellies and no stillborns. I think she did fine for her first litter. Everyone has shed and been checked out. No problems that we can see. Will do weights tonight. 66 days gestation. Thanks for all your kindness and congrats. This little Radix has blessed our home and now has blessed us with some babies. I have been informed by my daughter Gabby that all 12 will stay with us. I agree with her. I will be making some new inclosures in the near future for these special kids. I'll post again as they start to eat. From the looks of these little guys it won't be long.

All the babies weighed in at about 1.5 gm. Great atitudes. They don't mind being held. Still have a few completing the shed on their tales. They may need to go in the shed box but otherwise everything is going well. Some have been swimming and all are very active. Lucky the mom wanted to be held most of the night and spent a lot of time in the hood of my sweatshirt as I did chores. My daughter, Gabby is in heaven, now that her Lucky is a mom. I know it will be many years from now but I can't wait to see her teaching my grandkids about these little radixs.

There first night was a success. Everyone looking good. Very active. When I put my hand in one come right over and sit in my hand. I took her/him out and the little scrub seemed as interested in me as I was in them. Lucky is doing great. Hoping she will start eating today or tomorrow. Tried to feed some salmon to the babies last night but no one was interested. I'm sure they will eat soon.

Our girl Lucky is unlike any other Garter I've ever had or seen. She would rather spend her time out with us than with her own kind. When outside she doesn't make a break for freedom. She will stay around us and doesn't wonder to far away. She has made a great connection with my family and I couldn't be happier.

Update! 5 of the 12 started eating today. Cutup worms. I called my daughter's(Gabby) school and had them give her a message about them eating. She has been worried about that phase of their development. She knows that once over the eating hurdle, it's a breeze.

You'll get up dates probably to the point you'll get sick of hearing about them. I'm excited because my little girl is watching this cycle. She found this little baby snake and cared for it, it became attached to her as well as her to it. Now she gets to take care of its babies. I asked her the other day how it felt to be Grandma since her baby has had babies. She just laughs and gives me a big hug.

Not sure what's going on. Our girl Lucky has apparently decided that her recovery time will be spent with me. My daughter Gabby will get her out to check on her and if I am anywhere near she will try to get to me. Tonight Gabby brought her over to me since she wouldn't calm down while me were watching a movie. As soon as I held her she went into the sleeve of my sweatshirt. She stayed there even after I sat down to watch the movie. She then moved across my chest into the other sleeve. Then up to my shoulder where she stuck her head out and relaxed. I've never had such a calm and trusting snake before. No startle response. No fear being with us or our dogs. I can't explain it but don't need to understand it either.

Welcome.

If you can keep them eating, there is no reason to brumate them.

Welcome.

If you can keep them eating, there is no reason to brumate them.
thats the problem i was gone to a hockey tournament and asked my buddy to feed them and he says he saw them eat it seems that they have eating patterns theyll at lots but then theyll go with out for quite a while right now there probably eating 10 worms a week each

Lucky the Mom started eating today. Put her in my worm box and she dug and found a couple of very large ones. She's a happy snake.

Here's a 1 week old with a belly full of mouse parts. I couldn't be more proud! These little scrubs are some much like their mother. Trusting and with very little startle response, very curious about everything that goes on. My little Radixs rule.

Looking good man, they grow quick.

infernalis
11-19-2008, 09:02 PM
Speaking of growth, I thought my Radix were fast growing, they got longer faster than the whole collection.

Then I got MoJo (My blackneck) she passed the radix, both in length and in girth.

Going to be big for garter snakes.

Some of them seem to be on a fast track. Don't they?

Like you Steve, My experience has been with local specimens only, until this year when I got Thamn fever and started collecting others besides the Sirtalis Sirtalis (eastern) snakes from my yard.

I admit, one of the first species to catch my attention and interest were Radix:D

So when I spent the money purchasing my first ever "costly" garters, 2 of them were Radix.

Of the 4, The Melanistic and flame have both died from eating crap fish.

The radix, they just keep growing and thriving.

The radix are vibrant, healthy and eat like pigs..

One day I hope to see the babies they produce, it should be an interesting litter, since my radix babies are from albino bloodlines.

Sounds like it's worth waiting for. Good luck. Radix is the only snakes I have right now. I did have some ribbons visting for summer vacation but they are back home now. There are so many beautiful Garter but my heart belongs to the Radix. My first snake and probably my last. I have a long history with them.
