I have a couple of my breeding females who I think need to brumate. Note eating and spending most if not all their time in the cold end. My problem is finding a good safe temp to put them in... I have a refrig. that won't get any warmer that 40 and the coldest spot I can find in my basement is 60. I think one is too cold and the other is too warm. I only want to cool them for a short time and then get them eating again. I've never had to put any in the cooler and I'm not sure which direction to go. Any help would be great.

Getting creative looks like the way to go...

Hmm lets see, Do you have a garage?? a porch ?? Barn??

Are you good with wiring up electrical devices??

An idea would be to build a "dog house" size room outside with a small space heater and thermostat to keep it just above freezing...

look on your local craigslist for a mini fridge, or if you have room an older full size fridge.

Go check the temps in your attic, get an ice chest, keep it in the basement with some ice cubes in the water bowl, if you only open the ice chest once or twice a week to put more ice in the water bowl, it should stay cool in there.

Thinking outside the norm can work wonders at times..
