As it was leaving my hand towards the trashcan it dawned on me that this would make a great snake hide. Roomy, insulated and vented. The vents can be enlargened to suit the snake size. Lot of peek holes. Cheap to buy at a yard sale, thrift store or go get the ones hanging in the shed. Cut off the straps, cut a entrance and there you go. What more could a Radixs want. Here's what it looks like in our Lucky's birthing enclosure.:)

It didn't take her long to find a place to watch from. Sorry for the poor focas. Camera not happy today.

great idea
Mikhaila's helmet just got chewed up by a cockatoo
since the bird already started picking off the plastic shell, it'll be easy enough to just strip it to the styrofoam

Great idea! I love stuff like this! I'm convinced that these guys appreciate(maybe not the right word... make use of?) anything new in their enclosure. I'm starting to think of it more like enrichment, like they do at the zoo :)

Guido, you are so creative. They do love peeking out of holes.

VERY creative! Me, I'd spray that sucker with Great Stuff foam and make it look like a rock... but then, I'm a little addicted to Great Stuff lately. :-) Great idea!!!!

That would look awesome! It wouldn't hurt them in any way?

Why, it's right out there in my husband's garage.... :D

Wonder how much I can use before he starts to realize all his foam has gone to the snakes and he has none for his work??

how green is this stuff?
I mean - if somewhere up or down the line, it does unspeakable things to the environment and our children's endocrine systems, I don't really want to use it, no matter how much fun it may be
a quick glance at the web-site did not provide easy access to its chemical composition, although they do assure us that it's ozone friendly and does not contain formaldehyde

I have to wonder that myself, and how safe it is for the snakes.

It is after all used as body filler in automobiles and in the construction trade.

Here's a link for the MSDS on it.

http://www2.itap.purdue.edu/msds/docs/7079.pdf

That's just one of the versions of "Great Stuff" here's the link for the listing page of MSDS Letter "G", scroll down to get the MSDS for the product you are using:

MSDS - Search Results (http://www2.itap.purdue.edu/msds/index.cfm?letter=G)

It doesn't seem to pose too much of a hazard, being polyurethane. But everyone has their own comfort level, so check out the sheet, and see if it's something you'd be okay with using.
