I thought I would show you some photos of a male Plaines we aquired last year. We found him in the backyard. He was a handful and from his appearance needed some TLC. I can't imagine how these injuries occured. They can't be from fights with his own kind. I figure it must be preditors or contact with the human kind. It took months to calm him down. Before then he would go crazy in his enclosure. We named him "Scar" he's the resident stud. He has fathered two groups so far. I home that his strong survival skills will be passed on. Now, when we open the enclosure he will come out to greet us and will make contact with us. We still have to move slow around him since the memories from the past are still there. Seeing him gives me more of an appreciation for these wonderful animals. Even with all mans attempts to get rid of them they persist and live among us. Wanting nothing more then a chance to survive. I have had a blessed career with the Sheriff's Dept. and have worked in the local elementary schools for the last 19 years. I take some of my Garters into my classes in the hopes of gaining a few new friends for these tough little guys.:)
