well im having very bad luck getting my garter to east pinks. and now he refuses to eat earthworms. so far he seems to love salamanders, i drop one in and in seconds its gone but my question is how often should i feed him? these salamanders are average size redbacks and the garter is around a foot and a half to 2 feet long.

oh and i think i found out why he wont eat pinks, i saved this guy from a bicycle accident and now about 3" from his head there is scars and he cannot bend that part os his body, it is also smaller then the rest of his body so im guessing he is having a hard time getting his food past it because it doesnt even expant or retract as hes breathing.

in this pic you can see the scared scales and sorta how it is smaller then the rest of him, i will try to get a better pic if he every decides to pose for me

ive had him for about 2 weeks, feeding one salamander every 3 days or whenever hes running around the tank searching for one.

i have tried scenting pinks with salamanders but as i said above he just wont take em. im gunna go and get some minnow or guppies tomorrow and try them next, im kinda in a rush to find a good diet because winter is almost here and salamanders are getting slim, i only got about 12 of them left (got lucky and found a nest a day ago).

I hope your able to get him to eat. Mine didnt eat for over a month when I got him then just last Sunday I bought him some Minnows and put them in a bowl and he ate them suckers up. Last night I gave mine a pinky for the first time and 4 minnows and he ate everything. Mine likes movement. lol

A pair of reptile tongs or hemostats are a good investment.

I have many little garters that will not eat unless I shake the food for them in front of their nose.:D

It's called "tease feeding"
