"Junior" my little disabled Dekayi passed today.
This is the one who nearly choked this spring for those who remember.
He had some disorder that caused his neck to be entirely too small, he had to eat lots of tiny slugs to sustain.
He was one of two runts that I was sure would never make it at all, he lived against the odds for 18 months.
Junior never put on any size, and always looked too skinny. Most likely since he could not swallow proper size food items, he never really had proper nutrition.
The other runt lived only 11 months.

Oh, Dekay. I am so sorry. It's not been easy for you the past couple o'months. I wish there was something I could do to ease things for you. If there is, let me know.
Bless you. At least JR did have a good, happy life - look at that face! - while he was with you.
(((((Dekay)))))
sorry to hear about this....

Well the way I look at it, he had 18 months more that he would have had out there.
I remember when he was born, he was frail and tiny. It was all he could do to free himself from the birth membrane.
I started him on slugs so tiny they were not much bigger than the head of a pin.
Never had any interest in worms, He was part of why I farmed slugs in the basement last winter.

Oh, Dekay. Oh. Dekay.
I don't want to breed. I couldn't take it again. You can't help but feel - at least *I* can't - that each and every life birthed from a breeding is something you birthed.
I mean... they never asked to be bred. So I always felt they were 'my' babies. because I bred them.
You did so good, Dekay-Wayne. JR had a better life than "out there" for sure. Bless you.
Sorry to hear, Wayne. Without doubt he had a much longer life that would have been possible in the wild.

Thanks everyone.......
Before I knew what sex he was, we had named it "Xena Junior" because it looked just like Xena (his mom)
When he turned out to be a boy, It just became "Junior"
The father was "Speedy" who passed before his kids were born.
The litter was fairly large, so when the weather was proper, we released a dozen of Juniors siblings out back.

Thanks Jo, The ones with disabilities have a way of making me feel, well "sorry for them"
He spent the first moments of his life in the palm of my hand, and he spent the last moments in my hand as well.

Condolences Jack, at least Samantha is not suffering anymore...
It will seem weird not having to cater to Junior's special needs anymore.

Sorry Wayne, It's always tough when a little one passes, but for Junior's time here he had someone caring for him. That's what made the difference. Great job.
