These guys are under special concern in Maine, however I was lucky enough to find one today poking around my lawn. I will fill out my usual report for the state and take the usuaul pics in hopes that someday they give me a permit.

Anyways take a look, real sharp looking guy..

Greatest thing about this is it means there is a mommy and daddy near by :D Kinda cool to know an animal under special concern is located near your house..

btw - next on my list, the timber rattle snake has been expired in Maine since like 1945 I think, someday someday ;)

Gosh! But that looks like a 'normal' MN Common Eastern Garter. Though maybe the stripe doesn't go up as high on the head.

Weird the ribbons and easterns look so much a like.

Good find and good luck with your permit.

nope pretty sure its a ribbon, a northen or eastern. Not 100% sure though. Maybe Stefan could pin point it for us, Stefan ?

Yea he was right in my lawn, my daughters were rolling down the hill and a saw him. Wasnt really even looking.

Definitely a ribbon. The labial scales are unmarked. :)

Most definately a Ribbon and I believe an Eastern. Note the little white bar in front of the eyes. Nice find.

Yea, google-ing around I see images with both northern and easterns with that white bar.

Still trying to pin point it :D

Thanks, I thought the season was just about over here but found this guy today and a redbelly the other day. Things slowing down out in your neck of the woods?

Yeah, all encounters lately are Dekayi snakes. My kids spotted a garter down by the creek, but all my boards have nothing under them for over a week now.

They seem to prefer the cooler weather.

The one rustling leaves yesterday was pretty, I have 7 of them, so I left her be:cool:

I dig me some garters, but there's just something sleek about ribbons...maybe I'll have one someday.
