another one bites the dust

I have lost another baby Checkered. I have been keeping them in small plastic containers and they seemed to be doing ok but i have just lost a third one.

Could it be they are getting to hot or could it be that they cant shed right as there is not anough room though i have been putting small bits of cork bark for them to scrach on. My last one to die was stiff and dry and had not shed.

Could you kindly describe the temps, your heating at home (Forced air heat dries snakes out quick) Are you using auxiliary heat, Water bowl set up etc...

The containers are 5and half inches at the base, 3 and a half inches wide, 3 inches high. They are in a wooden vivarium spaced out and the temps are around 80.

That's really small... What do you do for water? What size air holes do you have?

I have drilled quite a few holes so hopefully that should be ok. I use a small plastic milk bottle top for water and feed them every other day. Should i put them into a glass viv to give them lots more space and more aeras for bark to help them shed.

Sorry to hear that.
I use 6 qt sterilite boxes for babies, on paper towels, with a deli cup water dish, with good success. They are at ambient temp in the reptile room which ranges from 78-84 f. summer, and 72-84 winter. My snakes all shed ok using only whats listed above. Once they are yearlings or so they get a real cage.
Perhaps you could let the babies live together in a 10-20 gallon cage but put them into the small containers for feeding time? This would allow better heat gradient and humidity gradient, and more space and air.

sorry for your loss. sounds like the caging is too small...I use the small 6 or 7 quart sterilite tubs for 1 to 3 small babies...with a deli cup for a water dish.

Loren, That's exactly how I do it.

Each litter is in it's own tank, separated for feeding and returned.

It is pluged into another viv that has a thermostat which is controling the temp.
