I brought myself here to help myself own up to 12 remaining snakes from a liter of 26. My wc female had them in July.
Ouch, Where as I really didn't see them coming. I have got to say they are some of the most beautiful Eastern Garters I have ever to lay my eyes on. (of course I may be partial).
Here's the mother (Fisher)

And here are a few of her pride and joys

I glad you all think so...
You know, I didn't even know that releasing them was even an option until I came here.
I'm glad, there are a few "foot longins" that ought to do really well this fall in the wild.

P.Sssssss. I am native to south Louisiana. So I am still feeling my way around NY...Where is Gowanda?

yeah.... if you can't find anyone elst to keep them then i'd let them go.... but if you're going to do that you had better do it soon...... they need to find a place to brumate.......

Hi and welcome. :)
the main thing to know is that the laws on releasing animals vary from state to state, so It wouldnt be a bad idea to look into that, for your own protection.

Well, I called the SPCA here in NY and the wildlife guy kindly laughed at me while he finished my sentence for me...The one that ended with "AND completely wipe out the entire garter snake population!!!"

Yeah I know. But I was entirely too relieved to feel silly (believe ME).;)

Anyway, my husband still wants to keep them until the spring...He says he would feel like a bad daddy if he shoved them out to burmate so soon....:o:rolleyes:;)
