Hey Gang...
Just came home a little while ago and found one of my 4 fast growing juvenile Florida Similis's floating upside down in her water bowl...
This is the first pet Garter I have die on me and am looking for any possible answers?
I had all 4 plus 2 new baby Puget'sand 2 baby Butler's housed in a 20 Long tank.
I try and change their water every 2 days, remove poop constantly and change and clean their tank with new Carefresh each Sunday.
I know sh*t happens, but would love to know if there's any way of knowing what caused the death of my female Similis?
All my other Garter's appear to be OK and they all eat Minnows, Worms and Pinky parts pretty well...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks!
Jack

sorry to hear of your loss, Jack
it does happen sometimes - a snake that seems to be doing fine, suddenly dies for no apparent reason
we just don't know enough

Jack these sudden things happen, trust me I know first hand.

The snakes were all primo top notch stock, they just expired.

We can speculate food this, parasite that but in the end, without opening up the snake for a complete analysis, no one can really tell.

Sorry for your loss.... and what Wayne said....mother nature is a real b****....in nature they have large litters so that a few can make it to adulthood...really sucks when it's a good captive born well feeding pet!!!! :(

Yeah one of my baby easterns just passed. they were all fine, and I noticed at feeding time this one Little guy was acting lethargic, he only ate half a small worm, ignored his fish, and was gone in the morning.

All we can do is cope and keep on going.

Thanks, Wayne!
I just wish we could somehow identify what causes their deaths and could it have been prevented?
I am trying to nurse my adult female Butler out of a losing battle with a respitory infection. After $160+ spent at the Herp Vet, she's continues to wheeze constantly....
Frustrating...
