First up Garter Snakes.
What 1996 comedy features a whole bucket of garter snakes??
Hint number one, the sound track overlay has hissing and rattles in it.

That was fast Stefan.
What action adventure movie does the main actor punch a rattler in the head and then points his index finger at the animals face and says "bad snake"?

Not I.J. or snakes on a plane.
Moments later the snake bites a guy in the face.

gee, that didn't take long, thought that might stump a few due to it being an old movie from the 70's.....

I'm big on older horror-ish movies :p
Here's a question. What 2000 drama film contained a boy growing up with a love for snakes, and later in the movie he is killed by one of his most prized specimens?

Dreamscape was the film that came to mind at the time, 1/2 snake 1/2 man or whatever.
Can you think of any movies with Garter snakes in it?

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Been a long time, will have to watch again:D
Stefan-A
09-12-2008, 04:05 PM
You won't have to watch much of it, the scene is pretty early in the film. The young Indy (played by River Phoenix) falls into a container full of them.
I think they were garters. I haven't seen the movie in years.
Edit: Indeed they were garters, again complete with hissing and rattles.

Jean Claude Van Damme
I met him in person.... I was 16 at the time, he was my heart throb, I have seen all his movies...
Stefan-A
09-12-2008, 04:18 PM
I've never liked any of his movies and I've seen most of them, I think.

Time Cop was rather cool...
But I also like Ron Silver as a bad guy.
Yet again Jean Claude gets to be in a movie twice.

and there are no snakes in it either

Now that we have movies out of the way, can anyone think of any times Garter snakes were on a TV show (Not animal planet or national geographic)???
I think I know why you like that movie Rhea, Dorothy likes all the Van Damme movies, especially the ones where he takes off his shirt.

he's not really my type, with or without shirt (oops - almost forgot the "r" in that) and Blood Sport is the only one of his movies I like
the thing I like about it is seeing all the different forms of martial arts and the different fighting styles - it's like a martial arts sampler

Ah OK, then you must like Segal movies also.
I like action movies in general, and Van Damme movies are super cheap so we have them all.
Segal movies were great, but the recent ones are too "Hip Hop" for me.
He's a great martial artist, but not a nice person.

but I really like Jacky Chan - he seems more fun and less full of himself than most of the other martial arts guys

who are you referring to Stefan?
In a sense all 3 of these actors can fit your statement......
Rhea, You never seen either "Under Siege" movies??

Has anyone ever seen the movie "FROGS"? It stars a young Sam Elliot and Joan Van Ark. Lots of herps in that one. I was tempted to try an ID list last time I watched it but I am not that good at it. The main characters seemed to be the "croaking" marine toads though.

so true
no, should I?
most of my martial arts movies I get to see on the bus to summer camp (which I didn't do this year)
one of the Sempais has a large collection
my truly favourite one of his was an older B&W documentary on different martial arts traditions
I do love old Sato Ichi episodes
and there are a couple of Chinese ones one of my acupuncture teacher showed us as an illustration of the use of qi that were pretty cool
back to snakes
can't think of any and I've tried
lizards are easier

The last name mentioned.
Rhea, You never seen either "Under Siege" movies??I have. The first one was good for about 0.5 seconds, when they shoot down the F/A-18 using the CIWS. That was neat. The rest was ****.
Ooh, but I liked the one where Seagal's character falls to his death 10 minutes into the movie. It would have been okay, if it wasn't for the fact that Kurt Russell was in it, too.

Ok back to snakes...
Cannot think of any with Garters off the bat.
However there is a reasonably popular TV series that had a scene where a drug induced hallucination featured at least a Ball Python, a corn, a nelsons milk snake, a Melanistic or black milk snake and a few others.
Any guesses???
infernalis
09-22-2008, 08:42 AM
No ideas?? The episode takes place in outer space...
Another popular TV series on the fourth season the kids placed a Red tail boa, a ball python, 2 corn snakes and 2 milk snakes on mom and dads bed as a prank.. any ideas??????:D

Its easy to ID the snakes when the show is on DVD, I can pause the movie or show and ID the snakes:D
I thought all snake people snapped to attention whenever one appears on the screen????

Well, what you're most likely referring to was before my time o'loving snakes. And back then I was more inclined to hide my eyes, change channels, run screaming from the room, or pass out.
*Now* things would be more in keeping with what you suppose snakely folk would/should do.

the problem with me that I'm not into watching TV
I prefer to spend my time on activities that don't keep me tied to one spot
Stefan-A

I didn't watch much TV in the 80's. If it's not MacGyver, Knight Rider, Matlock, Murder, She Wrote, Battlestar Galactica or Married… with Children, chances are that I didn't watch it.

Stefan, one of those shows you mention had the first snake scene I asked about:D
Anything more would give it away...

The first question's answer...
The new edition of Battlestar Galactica, The president has cancer, Her drugs cause her to halucinate 12 snakes.
The second question, Rosanne. The kids dump snakes on Rosanne & Dan's bed as a prank.

After watching two movies this week it reminded me of just how badly served reptiles and other animals are the film world.
i was enjoying lonesome dove, when one of the cowboys was attacked by a horde of water snakes [what do you call a group of snakes] and bitten to death,
as i understood the scene the cowboy was crossing the river on his horse and was deliberately sort out and attacked, dieing from multiple bites, in the second film the unlikely scene was a misplaced creature, the movie was the Americano [Glen Ford] and in the middle of the Brazilian jungle a parrot is shown laughing at a lady bathing in the river below it, the problem being that the bird is actually a sulphur crested cockatoo [Australia] it reminded me of being a kid and getting so angry watching tarzan movies because they used Indian elephants in an african jungle, can you add to the list?

Can't recall the title but I saw a cheesy Science Fiction flick with killer corn snakes in it.
They hissed, rattled and bit victims to death.
It takes place in a submarine..It really failed to hold my interest, so details are sketchy.

I was watching an old horror movie from... The 60's? I think. It was in black and white. The acting was good, but they called a Gila monster a dragon... I guess in a sense it could be, but they could have called it... Oh, I don't know... A giant man eating monster. :D

that is just the type of movie i was referring to, no expectation of their audience having the slightest knowledge of natural history, and coming from a different angle what about the preposterous jaws four where the great white shark tracks the person who killed it's mate across the globe in order to extract revenge, it makes skull island and an out-sized ape seem believable by comparison

there was one spectacular piece of footage that i remember seeing in an old jungle movie it was a leopard approaching the camera when it was suddenly seized by a large constrictor and encircled in a second, whether the cat had been drugged i have no idea, i know that the studios did stuff like that in years gone by, what i do know is that in countless hours watching spectacular wild life documentary's i have never seen any thing else quite like it ,
too much of a long shot i suppose expecting any body to know which movie this happened in

One must realize that all horror movies capitalize and play on common fears that many people have, whether those fears are rational or not. It's a horror movie, not a documentary. Not to be taken seriously.

yes Richard i know the methods of horror movies, but the movie i am asking about was a jungle/adventure movie shot before the fifty's a Tarzan or some such, If the scene was filmed in the wild and not set up in a pen [a style later practiced by the Disney studio's for their wildlife adventure films] then it is a piece of footage that any of todays world famous wildlife camera men would be very proud of, hence my mention of documentary's.
