What an experience it has been. Unlike nonvenomous reptiles, you have to be careful on who you deal with. The liability factor alone was something to think about. Anyhow, they are really cool snakes & I think that some peole do not realize what a jewel they are.
Sorry about the lint in all the pics, did not realize it was there til later.

out of 21 babies C. atrox, this is what I have left = D

Jerry, was just thinking of you yesterday. Wasn't it you that was getting the beaded lizard? Perhaps in trade for some atrox? My memory sucks! Saw one at a pet store yesterday and was wondering how yours is doing. Really love your atrox keepers & that normal is pretty awesome looking! Scary, but awesome :D

Man, I tell you. Those pics put the fear into me like you wouldn't believe. They're very hard for me to look at.

I don't know how you do it, Jerry.

Yes, I traded 2 atox for 2 beaded lizards. They are doing great. I need to take some new pics though.

Nice... those are some crazy looking claws. Do you handle them at all? Pretty neat critters :)

I can't wait till I have my own house and enough experience to get into venomous herps. I really want an eyelash viper, gaboon viper, and a albino rattler...not sure which species.

Oh, a sidewinder would be cool also.

The biggest obstacle most people will face is the legalities. Less and less states, cities, and counties allow hots, and you must make sure that none of those 3 forms of government where you live have laws against them.

I really would like a black tailed rattler, but they are not allowed here as they are not native.

Yeah, it is crazy how you can barely keep anything anymore because of all the liabilties that go along with it.

Yep. Rule one- follow laws. Rule 2. keep them very secure and be very safe. rule 3- dont tell the neighbors !

OMG....the never tell the neigbors....back when I was hardcore into fish one of my friends had red belly parahnas (sp?) and the neighbors found out and they were taken away...it was sad. and it wasnt liek it was even illegal to keep them where he was just the neighbors didnt like the idea....dummies.

me either:cool:

jitami, yes I have held them. I am very careful, you just can not reach in & grab them because they are very fast @ swinging their head around. I was told by someone that had been bitten before that it is VERY PAINFUL.

Kevin_is_a_herper12, There is more to it than that to keeping venomous reptiles. The best thing is to read as much as you can & then to find someone that has venomous that will allow you to work with him to get the experience first. Make sure it is someone that has not been bitten several times.

Oh my gosh..... *cries* Those are SOOOOO nice!!! I SOO wish I could keep venomous but not willing to take the risk.... :( Most venomous species have a special quality about them and really appeal to me.

Thanks for the info Bay_Area....its also a good idea to get something less venomous....(like that's possible) and fast to have as a "test" to see if your ready for the big leagues....such as western hognose snakes.....they have venom and are quick, but it won't kill you if you get a hit from one. ;-)

Whoa, they're gorgeous. I'm too much of a coward to keep hots, hehe. They're very pretty though...

Lol!! I wouldn't use a hognose. lol! I would either use a MEAN non venomous, such as a texas rat snake, a nasty WC water snake, etc... And tell yourself everytime you get bit you could be dead or injured. OR pick a better rear fanged. Hognose is SOO mild. Most people don't even call them rear fanged. OR I would choose something rear fanged that is actually aggressive with a slightly stronger venom such as a Mangrove Snake.

Hoggies strike in defense with closed mouths. Also, they don't 'change' direction. Meaning if a Hoggy decides to strike forward and you move your hand to the right, the Hoggy will follow through forward and not follow your hand.

They'll put on a fierce show but the minute pick them up, they're pussy cats.

After Jerry's comment, I realised I should add the part about needing to have the proper experience/training, education, and preparation first- I was mainly refering to the legalities/liabilities earlier, but this is the most important thing of all.
