Hi
this is the 3rd time i have woken up to find 1 of my garter snakes as gotten out of his viv. How he does it i dont know.
I have blocked up all the holes where the wires are through into the viv.
So am stumped as to how he is getting out.
The only thing i can think of how he is getting out is between the viv glass. (he is lot smaller than female.) Last thing at night i alway make sure the viv doors are shut tight. Trouble is its the sliding glass type, and i pretty sure he could be getting out through there?
Any tips please? My front room is sealed up at night. so he as no chance of getting into other rooms. I.E. draught excluders on door.

I am waiting for the photos to be approved on here , so then you can see how small he is up to the female.
Thanks in advance.

If there is a gap between the sliding doors, then it's best to put something between them. If the gap is to big, they can get through.

For the rest, really check all possible holes, gaps, ... I can't say more.

My guess is on the gap between the doors as well. A strip of draught excluder or a strip of velcro tape (the soft half of course) should seal it well enough. The enclosure doesn't have any loose-fitting lids or anything else like that, I assume?

I second velcro tape for glass gaps ;) a thin strip should do it! Look for 'Hook Pads' in stationary shop or a roll of it from clothes/some hardware stores.

I've had escapes through the gap between sliding glass doors
I now wedge little pieces of cork in front of the front pane into the rail, so that it's sandwiched more firmly to the back pane - that has worked well
