Carmella's eggs are hatching. 3 healthy and one questionable so far!
I looked in on the eggs, and saw the first baby half out of the egg:D
The bottom picture, if you look, the membrane / umbilical is visible, it was still attached, and that is the one I worry about.

Yes thank you Shannon, He (it) is on a damp warm pad, he's a lot more mobile now, and has chosen to hide in the damp towel.

Eastern milksnake, Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum. Easy to remember, it's the only milksnake that doesn't cause a migraine. ;) And one of about three Lampropeltis species that I'd consider keeping.

Shannon, I need an adorable lump of snakey-laziness to love and cherish forever more than you need a mate for your leetle friend. XD
infernalis
08-28-2008, 07:08 PM
No need to fight. all 8 hatched out perfectly.
2 stuck umbilicals, but overall a perfect clutch.
I already need to get a couple 20 longs for these guys. They do not care much for the tote box get up.
No one is going anywhere until they are feeding on thawed pinkies.....
Don't you wish they kept those baby colors forever?? I do..

Miscount - Make that 9 healthy babies...
The cords have dropped off the 2 that were questionable, so as of now, I have 9 that all look good:D
Well done - they look adorable! I love milk snakes *sigh* another rep to add to my ever-growing wish list...

Well I asked the milk breeders at KS how long before they eat, and I was told to wait for first shed before I worry about it.
The cords are completely dried off on the 2 preemies.:D:D
They look so cool scooting around in that new 20 long...

I found the first of the (second) sheds.
No one has shown interest in food yet, now that second sheds are starting, I may get some takers on the food.
If all else fails, Forced mouse tail is supposed to start them, I just can't see a whole litter needing that??
BTW - Both babies that I had to cut free with scissors are doing fine.
Congratulation, Wayne. Those are great looking babies:D. I just have to get one for the presentaions I do each year for the grammer schools
dude those milks are awesome!
I've tried looking for one out my way just to catch and release but have had no luck!
Shannon - you're in Pa right? Where did you find your little guy?

I found my male on the western side of the state... and I recently found my female behind my work on the eastern side. They were both found as hatchlings.. and both of them readily ate f/t pinks.... I just hide the pinky... and they find it! the male takes his under his hide, and the female likes to find hers under her watern bowl.
Don't give up on them wayne... their time will come!

I've been living in Pa for 12 years and have only found rat snakes, northern waters, ring necks and garters. I live in the south central part right below the turnpike from Harrisburg... Next spring/summer I'm getting ahold of wayne to plan an outing in NY.
right wayne?!?!?

The last of them ate!
There was one that started to scare me a little, it was getting skinny, never ate yet.
So last night I (gasp) put a live pinky in the box.
Gone this morning, chubby little milk snake ate it up.
down to six left, I'm keeping one, so 5 are still available.
These guys, once they started feeding, well now they are always hungry:D
