(Hey up is a yorkshire greeting)
been keeping snakes ,lizards ,sals ,newts ,frogs ,and toads for more years than i care to remember and just found this excellent site. Garters have got to be my favorite snake with their inquisitive personality and I'm off to Houston shortly to expand my collection. I also like water snakes so i always keep some anti septic around.

Welcome!

You're going to Youstown from Great Britan? Or are you talking about a Houston on 'your' side o'the pond?

I have 5 waters and they all bite. lol! But they were aquired as adults. They are super calm and then WHAM they freak. EASY EASY eaters though!! Take the food so nicely from your hands!

Sorry don't know what i was thinking about putting a "S" in Houten, thats snake day at Houten in Holland. All my water snakes bite even the ones i bred myself. I have quite a little zoo here with garters, corns, milks, kings, hog noses, waters, grass, ring necks, browns, lined, mangroves, royals and gophers, not to mention the amphibians, geckos and a monitor. But as i said garters are my favorates by a long way. I'm probably known more for breeding my newts and salamanders more than anything else and was asked to be a mod on caudata.org but i'm limited to what i can do on a computer having just mastered a calculator...nearly.

Ian, LOVE the name rigsby. Reminds me of "Grigsby" a song by Sir Elton John. Yeah. He's my fav. Waht can I say?

I've TWO Western Hoggies. Just got them two weeks ago. Beebees! I LOVE THEM TO DEATH. Ah, they're fast taking over the fav spot.

Well! That little $h!t Peepers bit me AGAIN last nite. That's now three or four times the little monster bit me. These NY Easterns ain't NUTTUN' like Winnie!

thats really weird mk maybe you should let him be for a little bit let him calm down you know

Kevie, HOW many WEEKS do you suggest I let him "settle""? I don't hug and kiss and hold him; leave him TOTALLY alone. But when I remove him to put in in the 'pancake-batter-thingy' to feed him.

Maybe thass the problem. I don't know. Winnie was NEVER like this... And she only got handled by me once a week when I was at the park...

Jeepers isn't like Peepers. Still a bit wildy, but not too bad. Settles down quickly. Not a Winnie yet, but close.

Peeper is PSYCO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not really worried about it. I didn't even know he was biting me (getting pretty innured to it by this time) until I looked down and there he was - going from side-t0-side, trying to get the side o'my finger in his mouth. He's not the brightest bulb in the pack...

I just blew in his face and that was that.

It only hurts me because he's my fav, way more so than Jeepers, and it's Peepers I want to snuggle and kiss. Oh well. Better a psycho Peepers than no Peepers.
