It looks like it's eating it.
I'm pretty sure that's a harvestman. Maybe.
James should know exactly which arachnid we're looking at here.

i agree it does look like its eating something else but that leg is also the same color as the spiders legs so maybe it is eating one of its own kind?

Sweet.....LOVE spiders.
umm....the critter in the photo that they are referring to isn't a spider....it's a group called harvestmen....also known as daddy longlegs. they have one body part, head, thorax, abdomen all in one part...spiders have two, the abdomen and cephalothorax.... they are neat anyway tho!!!!

It is a mexican redknee. I got her when she was really tiny and I've had her for about a year and a half. She's really easy to hold and hasn't even flicked hairs at me.

Hey guys, I wanted to bring this up in Tatiana's thread but will ask here-- Tati (rose hair) is not eating. It's been probably a month since she's eaten. What's up with that???

She is probably getting ready to molt. Do you mist her cage? If not, you should to help her with molting. If she does molt you may see her upside down and she might look dead but dont bother her. It might take up to a few hours...not really sure exactly how long. After she molts she will likely eat voraciously after several days, but not immediately cause it takes a few days for the fangs to get hard enough.

Also, its worth mentioning, if you think she's getting ready to molt, dont leave any live crickets with her because they can actually nibble on the spider during molting.

Thanks Christa-- she molted when I first got her, which was, oh, I don't know now... 6 months ago or so. Oh, yep, it was February. So think it is time to molt again??

Or she might be off food for no apparent reason. I've heard T's do that sometimes.

Hmm i know they molt less often as adults but 6 months might be long enough...it could be for no reason too although mine have never really dont that.

Thanks guys. I hope she's not ill or something. I think even my vet would draw the line at examining a T. LOL Can they go a fair amount of time without eating?? She deson't look sunken in to me...

yes, they can go several months without food....make sure there is water in there for humidity and her to drink. I had a rose hair a few years ago that went off feed for about 4 months. she died, but not from starving....pushed her way out of the small tank she was in...I had a piece of screen on top with rubber bands holding it on. she never tried to escape until the end...she must have gotten hungry and decided to push her way out. she found a 5 gallon tank that was nice and warm....had a piece of glass on top with a corner cut off...kept the tank humid. she crawled inside and met up with the occupants of the tank...a pair of emperor scorpions...:( they had a large meal.
as long as her abdomoen is not shrinking and getting wrinkly she is ok...if she starts to get wrinkled, she is not doing well and could pass away..
