The attachments contain the photo's of the Puget Garters I have. The photo's had to be cropped down considerably to be able to upload. If there is anything else that is needed for visual sexing let me know.

The first two are the same animal. The last one is the other one. They were extremely squirmy for this, so sorry if I didn't get good pictures.

You definitely have a pair.
in the fourth picture, the upper left one is female, the right one is male.

Awesome, from what I had read that's what I was figuring, but it's nice to have it confirmed. Thanks SOOO much. I was afraid that perhaps the guy on the right wasn't finished growing yet.

Bryan, The males are always smaller than the females.
The ladies need room inside for those babies:D

I´m not as sure as Wayne, but the first two pictures are definatly from a female but the last one is too blury to guess.
The size difference can also be a sign for different age!

The head shape and size of the one on the left looks just like my male. Not my three females... And the one on the right looks like what he looked in the pic scott posted of him when I bought him. He was younger then. Is there an age difference?

That rounded snout, thick neck seem likely to be a lady to me.

I'm taking a wild guess and saying middle. Something about its mouth (overbite?) is different...

I'll give the correct answer when enough people have guessed.

I'll go w/ three 2, based on it kinda looks more blunt than the others...I'm no expert though lol. It's kinda hard to tell since they are all different angles

Be careful people, Stefan is very smart, and I would bet this is a loaded question.
I would pick the one that looks like a male, just to be safe:D

You are probably right. lol!
I never sex based on just the head. My male pugets head looks like a female in a close up.
But I thought I would throw a guess out there anyway! For all we know. They are all females. :p

im going to guess the second one because of the pointy nose and thick neck

Back to the pugets, if you look closely at the last pic you can see that the tail doesn't seem to taper; a sign of a male.
I've never tried to sex by the head, but here goes:
In my opinion all the snakes in both sets are female. Both pugets look female to me as well as all the second set, though the first is very young looking. (Watch that one be male).

#1 and #3 are females. #2 is the male that died a year ago.

Half correct is better than completely wrong:D
Unless your dealing with hand grenades:eek: or judging the speed of an oncoming train....

YAY!! I at least got #3 right. But I assumed that to play fair I could only answer one. No more trick questions Stefan!! ;)

I don't believe in fair play.
As some of you may have guessed, I'm pretty skeptical about whether or not head shapes and sizes can be used to determine the sex with any kind of accuracy.

I am skeptical to. I simply don't go by just one characteristic as a general rule. Of all the options. One is usually bound to be dead obvious. At least. In my experience. But head shape in a close up pic is one I will never say "for sure".

In the book of Rossman et al. you can find statistic measurements.
Most differences are so small that you hardly can tell them significant,
or intersection is so much bigger than clear sex related measurements.
Most adult snakes are easily sexed by a look on the vent to tail area.

Yes, I know. But statistics aren't really of much use, when there's significant variation.
