This dekay was born in my house, raised for months, then released last year.

Found in the back yard a few days ago, I photographed him and returned him so he can carry on......

If you compare this one to every other Dekayi photo, this one is quite unique, the serious look, when all the others look like cartoon charecters...

He is very cute!! Must be comforting to see them grow so big. :)

I am thoroughly enjoying my new Texas Brown!! And still wondering if she could possibly be hypo??

I really love the Dekayis...I released 17 babies yesterday, I kept 3 for myself. I will take a Dekayi and one of my eastern babies into my class when school starts on monday. The kids will be amazed at how small the Dekayi is. :D

Great that he's still out there and doing well, Wayne.
It gives hope to those of us who have released snakes, and wondered how they would manage. :)

This is about the 4th or 5th of the dekay releases we have seen since release.

They seem to stay rather close to where they were set free.

With the thick slug population we have, no wonder they stick around:D

Amanda I don't want to sound like that MF over at kingsnake:D

Funny how his initials could be taken another way:eek:

Call her a hypo, and I will not challenge it.. However I have seen a lot of them exactly that color right out back.

Dekayi snakes are as variable as eastern garters.

Speaking of, ever wonder about the dorsal stripe, and think maybe DK browns may be distant cousins of Garters??

Whenever I flip boards over out back, it is common to see both species huddled together under the same hide.

My one tank in the living room has 3 adult dekay's and 2 smallish male garters in it, and all 5 get along well:D

Oh you aren't being like him. lol! Thats why I asked. ;)

Really? I have never seen pics of any as light as her anywhere... Huh. I would love to see more! So either she is a hypo and they are somewhat common in browns... Or she isn't. Just lighter, much lighter then at least most I have seen. What would be the way to tell? If it breeds true? Curious...

They do have a super similar appeal as garters!! :) I love em!

This gal is not nearly as light as your lovely lady....

Aww!! They are so CUTE. I am so a sucker for these.... :)

Yes, she doesn't seem SO light, until you compare... She is much lighter. I think it would be safe to call her a poss hypo. lol! But I am not gonna get all "she's a hypo, thats that" on everyone. :D

Dekays are really cute! Can one live with the J & P Duo?

P & J lived with 4 dekays for a year in the same 10 gallon tank:D

They miss the former roomies real bad:D:D

The DK in the neon looking thing, IS a former tank mate to P&J.

When I put my baby garters and dekayis together they seem to congregate immediately.
