Hi, I've been checking out the forums for a few days now after I stumbled acrossed it looking for information on my GulfCoast Ribbon that I caught about 4 days ago. He's about 12" long and I've done hours of research and have read every care sheet that I can find, but I still can't get him to eat.

I've only had him 4 days but I absolutely adore the little guy, I named him Ungenheuer ( German for "Monster" but I call him Hugh for short ). I've tried Tilapia (sp?) fillets for the past few days. Any information on a good starter food just to get him to eat before I release him, because the last thing I want to do is to harm the little guy.

By the way, the forum and it's members are absolutely amazing. Just reading your posts and previous threads have been seriously helpful.

Thanks alot,
Jason

welcome to the forum Jason
ribbons are lovely and I'm hoping you'll be able to show us a photo soon
don't worry about food just yet - give the snake a few days to settle in
if no food has been taken in two weeks or so, then you can start worrying
it might help to not handle the little Ungeheuer much until he's eaten

Welcome, Jason! I hope you enjoy it here. You might need to tempt Hugh with some live minnows and worms to get him eating, and then sneak in the tilapia and pinkies later. I'd give him a few more days to settle and then try that... keep us posted and we anxiously await pics!!

Hello, and welcome!:)
Don't worry too much about the feeding just yet. It can take a week or more for a new snake to settle in and relax enough to eat.
The suggestions already given for food are fine.

Welcome to the forum, Jason. Keep us postedd on the feeding. I'm sure all will be OK, new snakes often need a week or two so they adjust to the captive enviroment.

what they said! Welcome and enjoy.

Live fish in the water bowl or a whole (little) fish off tongs usually works.

Polliwogs and small baby toads or frogs will sometimes make them come around and eat.

Good luck:D
