So, sunday night, I arrived home from my trip to first the mountains and pittsburgh with my few new garters and Mustard the Milksnake (he was found by mustard plants) and I thought... yay, time to relax!!! New snakes all settled in, the very impatient baby garters and ball pythons threw me so many hunger looks I simply HAD to feed them right then... so then I went out to have myself a cup of coffee... 20 minutes passes by. I come back into the snake room and...
OH NO!! OH DEAR LORD NO! MY FLAME IS MISSING!!! my WONDERFUL flame that I literally JUST found (and named Cajun) How did she get out? where did she make the squeeze? I still have no idea how she managed to get out...
So I said to myself... hmmm... she had 20 minutes, she can't be outta this room yet right?!?! convincing myself of that.. I tore the snake room apart. She was not anywhere to be found. The air vent was opened and it is on th floor only a few feet from her cage... I was terrified that she had slipped in. I ran into the basement and banged on the vents. Didn't hear any slithering. Pulled out the fridge, the oven, tore apart a closet... even checked all the bigger snakes cages (one time my white sided black rat snake escaped and I found her inside the beardie's cage inside their log.... used to be her favorite piece of wood till i took it from her.... guess she told me she wanted it back!) After searching frantically for two hours along with my mom and the cats, we gave up. Determined... I sealed off the snake room doors with towels, so tightly a germ couldnt squeeze through! I took mounds of Flour, and I dumped them in random places up against the wall around the snake room. I lined all the doors downstairs on the hardwood with flour. I put all 5 cats in the bathroom for the night with a litter box (lol) I bumped up my rack system a degree or two and stuck a heating pad back behind it, and another under my garter shelf. I lyed newspaper and hideys on the floor. And I left for Eddie's house for the night....
Morning comes along, and I get home every morning around 6. Checked all my flour lined doors... nothing. walked into the snake room... and theres a track mark through a pile of flour!! She's not been eaten by the vent! hooray!!! she's not there under the hideys... shes not under the garter shelf with the heat... shes not under my racks... not even in the cactus... I was about to give up hope... when I decided to peek behind my racks. moved the heating pad and ZOOOOMM Cajun came flying out of there straight into my hand. And she was locked in the most snake proof cage in the world and she is grounded for a week:D
And a good time was had by all.
