Udo, the fact that your processing the information in a non native language, one of the most screwed up languages on planet earth at that, as quickly as you do speaks very highly of your intellect.:D

It's Quebec that's mainly French, but we have a large population of French speaking people here in Ontario as well. A lot of my husband's family speaks little or no English at all. They're from New Brunswick originally, another area with lots of French Canadians.
My in-laws' English is always amusing to hear. :D
I'm actually quite impressed with how well many of our European members speak English, considering it's not an easy language to learn.

Thanks Anji,
but you never tried to learn Nederlansk or Deutsch, did you?
Because we´re still something like a hidden kolony of the USA since the second world war, we have lost of English music in radio, English promotion...and have to learn a kind of "Oxfod English" at school.
and here is my secret

And yeah...I guess we learn most of our English (is that wit a capital?) from radio, tv, games, internet etc

people often mention how good my English is and I usually tell them that it was better before I lived in the US
my first week in the US, the American students were already asking me to spell English words for them

So, maybe English isn't as tricky as I thought. I've always thought so based on what my friends who've had to learn it as a second language have told me.
But my Italian friend says her mother learned to speak English from watching TV as well!
I find the Italian fairly easy to pick up.
Now, I have tried to learn to speak Polish. THAT was a little more challenging.
I guess learning any language that isn't your native tongue is an accomplishment.
