We're having a little trouble with our ratsnake at the moment. Last shed, about a month ago, was late and needed wet-bagging to stimulate shedding. She had fed just before starting her cycle and went well over a week before shedding and then finally passing some of her meal. She regurged the remainder and I guess it wasn't aggreeing with her after sitting in her stomach for longer than usual.
She's been fine since then ... she's a good weight ... active as ever - yet after every meal since she has passed the mouse and, moments after deficating will regurge a small amount of a jelly like substance.
Any ideas why she might be doing this?

Sorry gregg, never heard about that!
With regurgitation I think of flagellates and cryptosporidium...You might want to bring a stool sample to a vet

That's the only thing that comes to mind for me too... check for parasites. Good luck, she's a beautiful snake!!

Fingers crossed ... will buy some anti-flagellate on wednesday and will take it from there. Would the flagellates also cause loss of appetite?

It absolutely did in my snakes' case. The difference in their appetite after treatment was dramatic!!

Flagellates is my first thought also, Greg.

Ok ... first course of treatment seemed effective ... then last week she returned to vomiting ... treated for flagellates a second time .... still the same. Am now suspecting worms. Have contacted our vet to see if they can do a fecal analysis for us so we know what Penelope's up against.

Good luck!

By very hygienic to not transmit anything to the other snakes! Better safe then sorry. It's maybe even a good idea to do a fecal analysis an all snakes...

Don't worry I'm always careful of hygene when going between tanks. Penelope just seems to have been plagued with problems. First the mites and now this ...

Good luck, Greg. Hope you can get a handle on all these problems soon, so she can be healthy and happy again.:)

Right ... she was quite heavily infested with worms and the first course of treatment with velamisole is done ... and this is where it gets interesting  .... I administered her treatment orally for five days (to be repeated in two weeks) ... we left her for a couple of days and then decided to feed her ... I proffered the mouse in the usual fashion - no interest .... :( tried again two days later .... no interest .... I tried again today nothing!!! so ... I put the mice in the fridge and decided to try again in the evening ... I ended up working on some festival footage and told Terri to give it a go ... and ... SHE ATE WITH GUSTO!!! .... seems like little madam is holding a grudge against me!!! Who'd have thought it?

Yay, that's good news. Too bad she's being ungrateful at the moment. Don't you just love it when you do what's best for the animal, but they don't understand what you are doing is good for them!

Cheers everybody :) ... don't worry, I'm planning a picture fest in the next week or two for all our snakeys ;) .
Also, thought it would be worth a mention, the worming treatment we used was from the Beaphar range and was £8.99. A pre-filled syringe with dosage marking that was very easy to use.
