ok i finished constructing preggers' (the gravid girl im not keeping) temporary enclosure its basically 2 big buckets combined into one so there is enough room to stretch out with a swiffer refill box hide and an ash tray water dish and paper towel substrate in case she starts giving birth here are some pics she has yet to know what to do with herself
oh and the paper towels on the hide side are damp

on another note i got her to eat just b4 i took these pics hence the frog
it was pretty cool she caught the 2 frogs she ate out of the air when they jumped past her oh and they are fresh live frogs i went out today back to that pond (with a net this time) and caught a total of 23 frogs (some young bull frogs and a bunch of leopard frogs)

interesting cage idea...... but is it completely babyproof????? it's great that you got her to eat..... what do you feed george???? you can most likely scent georges food with the frogs and feed her that way...... frogs have a lot of parasites...... try to get her on pinkies..... they are a great base diet for a gravid female...... good luck!!!!

also a few more things I just thought about....... swiffer....... you should take out that box and smell it....... if it smells anything like chemicals i'd replace it..... and how it it ventilated?????? may want to add some large holes with screen securely fastened with superglue or likewise......

well i wanted her to eat something because she hasn't eaten in a while but now all the frogs i caught are on ice which should kill all the parasites
george has a steady diet of salmon supplemented with reptocal but i did get her to eat an F/T frog the other day so i think i will be tossing her one of those now and then for a treat checkers has only eaten frogs so far so for next feeding day i will try scenting the salmon with the frogs to make them as a treat for her once in a while i will also attempt to get preggers on salmon next feeding day
oh and as well according to wayne's suggestions i added ventilation holes on both sides of her temp enclosure and taped up the only exit point so she cannot escape

great!!!!! looks like your on top of things!!!!! only other thing I would sugest is to leave her alone as much as possible...... even if they are calm they can still be stressed...... o and do you have a thermometer in there?? i'd get a good one that had humidity too...... that way you'll never have to worry about it being too hot or cold..... but it looks great..... trying to think of more sugestions....... i've only made my own cage once...... but I know how hard it is to get everything just right..... snakes are picky animals!!!!! good luck!!!!!!

i dont have a therm in there yet but i am keeping the light off for now because it is pretty warm in my apt. about 76 -78 degrees so the temp is fine when my AC starts cooling off the apt. i will most likely have to turn the light on
but other than that everything should be fine :D

If the buckets smell, there's a risk that it will cause respiratory problems for the snake and any residual chemicals may also cause skin, eye and mucous membrane irritation, or worse. The ventilation holes seem barely sufficient for a completely odorless enclosure, but I'd make them bigger or add several more of them. Finally, there's all that tape. Somebody here lost several babies, was it last year, when they came in contact with tape and I've heard about others losing babies and seriously injuring adults by using tape on the inside of the enclosure.

the buckets don't smell they contained food product and i made sure to clean them out thoroughly and rinse them even better however i will make the vent holes bigger
on the tape subject was it the sticky part of the tape that they came in contact with ? if so i made sure that it was the backing of the tape that they can only come into contact with
i will only have her in there for another day or two i will be picking up the 10 gal on sunday

Good.

Yes, it was. And that's despite the keeper making sure that they couldn't come in contact with the sticky side. The snakes will hit the edge of the tape when they move along the walls and may gradually expose the sticky part, especially if they start rubbing against the walls. It's simply not safe to be used with live animals.
