Last week I was away for 2 days to Paris for work. And when I came back last thursday, it was finally there... The first cyrtopsis cyrtopsis offspring (I'm hoping the second female is also pregnant) had a clutch of 9 living babies and 1 fully developed, but death baby. Very nice for her first clutch.

I tried to give them food yesterday, but I'll have a hard time. Only 1 eated...

So here are the pictures:D

Can I also say that you guys are just amazing: I can never check the forum during the weekend, so I logged in today and had 504 unread messages!!!

Congratulations, you lucky *******. :D

I've heard that T. cyrtopsis babies are especially difficult to get eating. Is there any truth to it?

Thanks:D:p

It's completely true, Stefan. Last time I had 6 babies and also only 1 eated by itself... Mosty you have to force feed to get them started. Once you have them eating, they will keep eating those food items. The problem is that they really are amphibian eaters in the wild.

If some people have a very good way to get them eating, they can always tell me.

What amazes me is how less they eat compared with other species. She started eating 1 month after getting out of hibarnation. She was maybe pregnant for 2 weeks and already stopped eating. So she might have eated for a whole 1,5 months. And I expect her to stop eating again end september, begin october.

Congrats again Hans!

Thanks for the info about getting the young to eat.
I was almost getting worried about the ladies. They have eaten for about a month here and they stopped again. In that month they grew about twice as big (not in the length :) )...

Does offering live fish or small pieces of fish in their waterbowl do anything?

Thanks Sjoerd :)

Live fish is indeed a good trick, but they tend to really stick to it, even with other fish parts in the bowl. I'm not sure if I'm going to use it, it didn't help me that much last time.

It's a real shame, they are among the most beautiful garter species there are. But they sound a bit too difficult to me. ;)

Thanks everybody! :)

@Stefan: If you buy one that eats (which should be the case with a good breeder), you will have no problems at all. It depends if you want to breed with them, then you can have some difficulties.

I might want to breed it one day, even if I don't have any such plans when I'm getting the snake. :)

They are AWESOME! Look great! Are you selling/shipping any of the young after they feed? I would be very interested.

Good luck!

I'm certainly selling :D
But shipping to the US would be a little bit to expensive ;)

Thanks for the reaction!

congrats, Hans
they are beautiful and I hope you get them to eat

importing snakes from Europe is more involved than just dealing with shipping costs
it's the paperwork involved that makes it prohibitive
we do have them here in the US as well
I seem to remember an US forum member having them
but if all else fails, try this http://albinogartersnake.com/index.html (http://albinogartersnake.com/pricing.htm)
see the snake featured on the top right of the home page?
I'm not sure that he's got any right now, but they definitely are obtainable without having to deal with piles of papers and a large expense

Thanks for the reactions :)

I agree with drache. You'll certainly find some good offspring in the US, which make it not that difficult to ship them to you then when you would do from Europe...

The snake from Scott is cyrtopsis ocellatus, so a different subspecies. Although there is little difference sometimes between ocellatus and cyrtopsis.
