These may look like really cool photos from a recent herping trip.

Very nice! :)
Cy is quite photogenic. I love his colouring, you'll have to take some pics of him outside in the fall, he'd coordinate just beautifully!

Thanks, it's his first whiff of pine EVER:D

He knows what Aspen, Carefresh, coconut & repti-bark smell like.

Scarey snake. Gertie 'fraid. (shudder)

How to you guys keep your snakes for slithering off? P&J would be gone like little rockets!

Depending on the species, Smaller snakes, like say a garter, scan the whole area for escape routs, burrows, tall grass, etc.

Chose a location with very little opportunity for a quick escape.

Larger Snakes, move a little slower, so it's not so critical.

Cy being a bright orange, is easy to see, so I just never take my eyes off him.

I've chosen to only shoot my absolutely calmest snakes outdoors and I've always been prepared to grab them in a heartbeat if it seems like they're going to make a run for it. Mine calm down pretty quickly. I wouldn't try it with a snake that's normally difficult to handle.

I've also kept them right in the middle of the yard, far from any bushes, fences or buildings or anything else that could make it more difficult to catch them.

I bring mine out for a "walk" every now and then. Get them some natural sun is my main reason for doing it. I also make sure to do it in an area with no quick escape routes.

I was wondering though if the possibility to get mites outside in a short time is an issue? Ticks are easy enough to spot and more out in the woods in my area.

I guess I can kinda answer this because none of my WC snakes have mites.. but yea figured I would toss it out there.
