Hi there!

During the last two weeks I was in Sardinia (Island close to Italy) for holidays. Of course I had a look at the interessting flora and fauna and took a lot of pictures. I just want to share the best of them with you. Thanks for having a look at.

If you want to get to some beautyful places in the "outback" that are not touched by any human...something like that:

....or that....

http://www.boeh.ch/foren/sardinien_2008/DSC03598.jpg

...you just have to go through a lot of bushwood...

http://www.boeh.ch/foren/sardinien_2008/DSC03753.jpg

...(a lot of berry bushs)...

http://www.boeh.ch/foren/sardinien_2008/DSC03771.jpg

...so you need something....my weapon of choice :D:

By the tarn close to our house were the big ones...

Of course there are also a lot of other insects (this one, a true killer, had always something to eat):

http://www.boeh.ch/foren/sardinien_2008/DSC03919.jpg

...and many different butterflies...here the most beautyful i think:

...some days before (not sure if it is really the caterpillar of the one above)...

...and here a little scorpio:

I even "had to" catch a mammal. He got lost in our house and didn't find the way out. I decided to catch him and bring him out....but couldn't let my fingers of the camera and took those shots:

...he was not very amused and made a lot of noise, kind of screeching:

http://www.boeh.ch/foren/sardinien_2008/DSC04180.jpg

...something I didn't know that clear before....they have an impressive dentition:

Ok ok, I didn't only catch animals...sometimes (truely not many times) I took a recreation in the sea:

http://www.boeh.ch/foren/sardinien_2008/DSC04241.jpg

...but afterwards...hmm...how can I tell? :rolleyes: oh, I don't have to, just have a look at the picture, what a luck :D

(think it is a Testudo hermanni, but I'm not sure at all. But it can't be the other native turtle (Testudo marginata))

Here the vocal ones, mainly at night, a real open air concert:

Indeed great photos, but your timing could have been better. ;) You see, I'm using a GPRS connection, not much better than a good old-fashion modem. :D Won't be using a decent connection for a couple of days.

Thanks James.

Since this holiday I'm also a big fan of the dragonflies. They're truly rewarding models, would love to see this attribute on my snakes.

@Lori
It's nice to see that you like the pictures. Sadly I couldn't catch the "real" green of those agile runabouts. In nature they're even a tick more green, more intensive, really nice.

@Stefan
Excuse me, next time I gonna first post something like that :D:

a wonderful set of photographs indeed!!! that one fly that you showed and said was always eating something... that is called a robber fly! One of my favorite insects, I actually had one as a pet as a kid. Yes they are quite the hunters! They usually catch their prey in midair... but they're not picky!

Robber flies are neat....I have found some that are over an inch long!!! oh, that first 'dragonfly", the blue and black one, is a damselfly, similar to dragonflies, but smaller bodies, wings held up behind their back instead of out by their side. we have some cool ones here in Utah that are a sky blue!! neat little bugs!!

@lestat
Yes, it was just amazing. Never had holidays like that before. I (we, the first 5 days I was alone there) had a house at "the end of the road" far away from the next village. There is just nothing that bothers you, exclusive of wild animals. The water suply is based on a cistern system (out of a tarn) and the electricity comes through solar energy. An interesting thing on it's own for me. Ideally for a simple life and slowing down. Just a dream for me, just what I needed. But why am I talking again, decide on your own, here some shots of the house:

Have a look at the upper rocks on the right side...

@Shannon
Very nice, thanks for telling me how those guys are called. I thought it is a robber horse fly (just "Bremse" in german), but didn't find anything with that name. So I thought I have a name in my head that doesn't exist. Puh, so I was not completely wrong...very calmative :rolleyes:

@Don
Very interesting too, didn't know that they have their own name. But I think I knew what kind of blue ones you mean, we have them here in switzerland too. Down there on Sardinia they had another blue, more dark, or were almost completely black.

And to get an end, here a last picture of the most affected one:

Oops, I've done a mistake. Those green lizards are obviously not Podarcis sicula but Podarcis tiliguerta. They're only living on Sardinia and Corsica, but there in great quantities. I don't think that they're kept in the terrarias of these world....maybe someone should start with that :rolleyes:

@Gertie
:D

@Anji
I really only can asset your friend. The bat was a highlight for me, I didn't even think before about holding one in my hand ever.

@Udo
Sadly I didn't have a harddisk on with me, but although I took a lot of pictures. I took without problems more than tousend, every evening I deleted the badest ones. Survived have 330.
