i was on my way home from getting george some food when i saw a turtle trying to cross the street less than a block from my apt.

it
i will post some pics when it decides to come out of its shell

It may have been going to lay eggs...

Also, the shell is one of the best means of ID for turtles...

ok i got some shots and i checked out how to sex the turtle and it is definately a male, he looks really grumpy, but wouldn't you be grumpy if you were just saved from crossing the street.

Definitely a female.

why would you say female
the tail is too long and wide for it to be female

Be sure to release her in the direction where she was goiing. Like ACROSS the street she was trying to cross. Sounds like (supposition) she laid already and was heading back to the lake/pond.
I saved a painted turtle earlier this year. Crossing the road, too. Kept her/him for a day at the Visitor Center and on Sunday I let her go ACROSS the road she was trying to cross.
Believe in their direction. They know.

lol gertie good idea but as i have stated it was a male and the only water source across the street is surrouned by a fence and it wouldn't be able to get in there
i released it back in the lake where i am sure it came from
