It seems like one of my 2 browns is getting thicker every day. I'm pretty new at this id'ing thing, but I'm wondering if she is in fact gravid.

She is most DEFINITELY gravid.
If she goes off food, don't worry. My dekays was off food for about a month before her babies came. She did take one slug about halfway through her gravidity though, so offer her some after a while.

Thanks, part of the reason why I was wondering is she's still eating like a trucker at a buffet. If anyone gets a chance to keep one they are a cool little snake to have. :D

I am LOOKING for one. lol! I caught a gravid female about 5 years back... Wasn't to big into seriously keeping snakes then. I want to shot myself in the foot for not keeping her. Haven't seen one since! Hmph.
When my girl had her babies I couldn't tell the difference between gravid or not. She had her babies and I found them on the floor all over the house. TINY TINY little guys got through the air holes in the container she was in. They were barely an inch long. lol!
Good luck with your girl!

I have had a Dekay's before, and I'm really hoping to find another. I just love these little snakes--so sweet and gentle.
Best wishes with yours, it looks like she's going to have a good-sized little family!:)

Thanks Anji, I really love these little snakes..I hope you can find one again. :D Wayne and Kyle...and anyone else with experience...should I keep my 2 browns together or put mom in a seperate tub? I don't really want to seperate them, but I also don't want the babies to be in danger with another larger snake in the same container. Any advice on this?

We had our browns born in communal tanks, no cannibalism took place.

Both Xena & Athena gave birth with other decays present, we lost exactly none..

BTW that copper phase color looks just like my Xena.. Very nice.

JerryAlso depends on the female size.
I didn't think that my girl was even mature to have babies; she's around 7-8 inches.
