maybe I´m a little late, but now I like to tell about my little trip to the Netherlands last Saturday.
I went for breakfast to Sjoerd:

BTW. The egg was so fresh that you´ll have to keep your hens in the kitchen if you want fresher:D

Its was nice to see a second and very different set up in one day.
The big enclosures in his living room are really fine build with beautyful self made back walls and alot of cute babies in the smaller cages.

Thanks to Gijs & Sabine for the warm welcome, very long talk and a delicious dinner.
I´m so proud that I had permission to visit the possibly biggest garter collection in Europe.

BTW: Their little Koy pond is big enough to use it for swimming lessons;)

I would be willing to pay for an enclosure like that!!! If you think it could handel shiiping I would be more than willing to talk price :)

Those are AWESOME!! I bet you could make a good buck making/selling those. Exo-terra are the only cages comparable however yours look even better than those.

I have to say, that when we came to Germany and Holland last year, we were given the warmest welcome that I think I have ever had!
Beautiful snakes, beautiful cages, but most of all beautiful warm hearted people!! Thanks again...it made it a trip I will never forget!:D

please have a visit at the website from my parents,they breed Collared Lizards (Ring neck Iguana's)
his cages are all like this ;-)

we always make them together :-D

Those are incredible. Collared lizards are my favorites and to see them in setups like that makes me...well lets just say I am wiping the drool from my keyboards.

It was raining when I started from Bonn and it Started again when I had to leave.

But while I was there, Maddin and me were able to sit in front of the terrarium in his garden.
Talking , drinking coffee and talking some photos for some hours while the snakes were feding and basking.

OH MY GOD! I've NEVER seen such enclosures! I'm going to have to do one for my Boys. GORGEOUS! Just like an aquarium - I could sit there for hours on end. What a beautiful and healthy environment! SUPERB!

as you can see on the upper right of this pictures, martin has two frames with nets as protection against birds and cats..

@Sjoerd: What you´ve recongnized as a melanistic ´sirtalis is a Natrix natrix natrix. On the left side of the enclosure there live T.s.concinnus, T.m.marcianus, T.p.proximus and T.a.atratus. In the right half there you could see T.s.parietalis, T.radix, T.s.sirtalis (X-flame), T.s.semifasciata and N.n.natrix.

Looks like a very fun time.... He knows so much about garters and being able to meet him at his home, sounds great.

Are they all male/females together that he has in his outdoor enclosures? Because I've heard many bad things about keeping marcianus males together with other females, for example...

Are they outdoor enclosures for the whole year?
He has brumation places in his enclosures, so the snakes can stay there the whole year.
He keeps couples or mixed groups of each specie or subspecie and the snakes seem to prefere their own kind for mating.

and btw - I'm only 5'2" in the mornings, and there are many ways to compensate
when you're tall however, you're stuck with those long legs

I've always said they put the wrong halves together at the factory!!:D
