Well... between today and yesterday so many of us were having babies that I guess my biggest girl decided to join the fun! As some of you probably remember, I caught her in early spring (march/april-ish)... a great big female with a big scar on her head and at the time, had some scale rot under her chin I wanted to fix up. I didn't know at that time she was gravid, but well... that soon changed!

Last night, me and the boyfriend were jsut about to go to bed at 12:30 when my phone rang. odd... it's my mom! even odder.... I pick up the phone and she says "shannon I just peeked in your snake room and there is BABY SNAKES EVERYWHERE!!! I was like OMG so of course I simply HAD to go see them... so here me and my tired boyfriend are at 1 am at my house catching baby snake after baby snake in the aspen! Mama snake was still having them when we arrived...

There were 2 stillborn. But I KNEW that I saw the one move... and I simply could not leave him alone... well.. after a HALF hour of being massaged and poked and mini CPR'ed (not quite literally).... the live baby count went up one! He took a HUGE gasp of air... then a few minutes of nothing... my dad is saying shannon hes DEAD give him to the tiger salamander... I was like.. no!!! Well sure enough he came to!

The final count is 25 live sqirmy spermies.. So itty bitty! I apologize for the lack of pictures just yet,

Sorry, I dont have any pictures of the little squigglies... no one in my family was home and I dont have my key (its inside haha) so they will come laterrrrr :p

to hold you out, here are a few of the proud (and now much more athletic looking) mama!

hahaha, well, ysterday I had a second litter born... totally blew my mind! I didn't even know that snake was gravid!!! She birthed 20 easterns.. but 10 were stillborn and the ones that are alive are SUPER thin compared to the chunkers the first mama had. I am sure they will do just as fine... its jsut amazing to see them compared! I tried saving all 10 individually.. but it looked like tehy were just a DAY or two under-developed. Their heads had this funny slight bulge to tehir shape taht yuo could tell something jsut wasnt right. She did not shed either! Oh well, my tiger salamander and My cali king had the stillborns as a snack... I would rather see them go to some good use than in my trash. I guess I will jsut be thankful that I have 10 extra little ones I didn't think were gonig to be here! I am also just glad to see that at least half of them made it. I will try and take a comparison picture of one from the first litter and one from the second to show you how tiny they are!

Nice pictures as usual. After holding those babies i wouldnt be able to let any go.

trust me, after a while... you get used to the idea that you can't keep them all! Though, I still have all of my ratsnake mutts, the first snakes I ever bred and hatched on my own... there is something very sentimental to me about those 6 snakes that I can't eplain.

oh and one other thing.. the count from the first litter is now at 27... I found one scooting his way through the kitchen last night!!! I am guessing that when I removed the deco piece from the cage, I did not check it as well as I thought I did... I pulled 3 babies out of it and could not find anymore...

oh well, goes to show you... once you think you are done checking.... check again!!

ROFL... I can see him just going like crazy...

"I'm almost free!!!!! I'm almost freeeeeee!! (puff puff grunt)" And all his brothers and sisters have been egging him on...

"Look, 27 got out!!! He's almost to the door!!! Go 27, go!!!!!!"
