Today is hot and humid, 90's
Out in the woods, it is 70 something, and shady.
Garters are out feeding right now. I'm heading back out.
I flip boards early am, and dusk.
Have decent luck that way.

Early morning, as soon as the sun comes up, is good.
Also, if you get REALLY heavy rains and then the sun comes out you'll see OODLES of snakes.
For general hunting, dusk is also good.

Yeah, once it hits 78-ish they'll come out. You have to aim for days in the 70's with lots of sunshine and a small amount of wind.

I found no snakes today but I did find a hen-of-the-woods almost as big as a basket ball. Kind'a early for them, but it's not rare they appear prior to fall.

Here in Humboldt County, CA activity time varies between the 4 different species. We are lucky here if temperatures even hit the 80's during summer (on the coast)

On hot days, flip over everything in sight!!!! snakes of many species will seek shelter under things when it gets hot out. Bark, boards, rocks, anything flat. Check shady areas when it's really hot out.
I found that orange eastern in the middle of the day, but he was in the woods where it is shady and cooler, most likely there eating baby toads and frogs.
Frosty nights in the spring and fall are good too, they will hide under things to avoid the frost.

ya i haven't had any luck flipping things over ive been doiung that for a couple weeks and nothing but fortunately last night while searching in a forested area next to this guys property i ran into to the guy that owned said property he said he find garters in his yard all the time and that he will leave them in a bin for me attached to his fence so i might not have to search much anymore :D
and dont worry about those snakes being in the bin for too long i pass by there everyday hunting for garters

Now that's what I call convenient!!:D
Just sort through the bin till you find a perfect mate for George...................you lucky guy.
And if you find any more girls the same colour as George, I want one!!

Well.........I guess it is a bit more fun starting them from scratch. But if you get to pick and choose from the magic snake bin, then I'm gonna put in my order!:D
