View Full Version : Periods of absence.

Hi Guys,:)
As some of you will already know, I start a new job on Monday 7th July. There is an initial 12 week period of training that I must go through, some of which may be local, but most of it will take me away from home and away from 'easy' internet access. There will be a two week period (when I go to Cork in Southern Ireland) when I won't get home at all.
Obviously, I'll try to get access to the forum in the evenings through local libraries, internet cafes etc. but inevitably there will be periods of absence when I just can't get on line. This is temporary! I'm not going anywhere! Once my 12 weeks is complete normal service will be resumed. Also (I just found out) two weeks into my new employment there is a statutory two week holiday! So I'll be around for that fortnight.
Anyway, the point is I won't be able to check the forum as much as I usually do, so I've spoken to our leader, Boots (Jason), and asked him to appoint another Moderator, and he has agreed to this. I have already made my recommendations as to who I think would serve our forum well, but of course that decision is his, not mine, so I won't name anyone at this point. Whoever Jason chooses, I hope you will all welcome them and help them to 'ease into' the role. Rest assured that the person chosen will love this forum and it's members as much as I do.
As I say, I'm not leaving or anything like that, in fact, if I find good local internet access while I'm training, you might not even notice the difference! I just wanted to keep you all informed, so you know what's going on.:D

I hope you'll love your job
and we'll see you back soon
oh and if you have the time while you're in Cork, go see Cashel (Carraig Phadraig) - it's not that far and kind of cool
there won't be any snakes, because apparently Saint Patrick thought they were evil and banned them from Ireland

And we promise to be good for the new moderator. (eyes averted) Really, I mean it. (Fingers crossed behind back) We would NEVER act up while you're gone. (Already planning ways to torment the substitute) :D

If you are in Cork, you HAVE to go to Fota,
its a zoo/ wildlife park, but the small monkeys, lemurs, and pelicans are free to roam...
the lemurs come down in packs at the cafe area amazing! the smaller monkeys come and beg for fruit treats on tree branches!

Well, I'm leaving tomorrow... early start on Monday so I need to be in Lonesome Hotel on Sunday night. Loads of shopping/packing etc to do. It's going to be a long twelve weeks for me... twelve weeks... damn, that's three months!
Hopefully I can get on line somewhere, sometimes. If not, I'm going to miss you all (and my family of course:rolleyes:). Those of you who have my mobile number, please feel free to use it! Especially in the evenings, even if it's just to text me.
Please continue to be nice to each other and don't say anything interesting while I'm away!:D
Later guys. Love you.;)

I must apologise for my prolonged absence recently guys... the training has been much more intense than I had anticipated. I'm working locally all this week, so I'll be around every evening. Following that I have one more week away (in Ireland again), at the end of which I have my final 'review', which is a grilling by a panel of interviewers... if I can come up with the right answers to their questions I get to keep the job... then I'll be working from home. If I can't impress them, I'm out... either way I'll be around a whole lot more!
I've missed you guys, it's been a long haul.... especially being away from home for so long. As you know, I get lonely when I blink!:D

Really? This is THE MOST TOLERANT happy nice place I've ever come across on the 'Net. I think you'd have to do something HORRIBLE horrible to get "kicked" off - a postion or otherwise.

That's not exactly what I ment. I didn't mean get kicked off as a punishment. I was thinking the "fill in" moderator was just as it sounds. To "fill in" for the other dude, and once he came back they'd go back to what it used to be like.
Garter_Gertie
11-09-2008, 10:03 PM
I'd said "position or otherwise."
James got a new job and he's away from home like weeks at a time. So, naturally, when he is home he wants to spend it with his darling daugher, Molly, and his sweet wife. (And house guests...)
Stefan, in my opinion, was pretty much a mod to begin with but just hadn't been knighted - so to speak.
So, Stefan has finally been given the official title and requsite abilities; James is back when he has the time, and Stefan is still a mod even when James is here.
Does that help?
Garter_Gertie
11-09-2008, 10:05 PM
Oh. And James never unbecame a mod. He was, he is. So we've just got a new mod - Stefan - that's not really a new mod, just more official.
WOOT! I'm even confusing myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
