Why thank you Sid. I am thinking about building a viv with no front on it, specifically for taking portraits.

If only I could shoot through the glass and have them turn out...

Is the fourth pic of the supposed "flame" you found? If it is, then that's no flame; simply a high-red northeastern phase eastern. :D

Scott Felzer called it a flame, but you know what, I like High-red northeastern phase better:D

"Simply"??? How many you find this year??? Should I let it go??

Just bustin' he's still a very sweet find...

Dave sent to me two or three pics of the Themnophis sirtalus parientlus (sp!) [I'm trying to work on my correct names!], Red-sided Garter, he took out at his father-in-law's house in Alexandria, MN... About... Maybe 1.5 hours from here. I told him I wanted to post them here as I don't have any garter pics to post. So I'll post them - one is sssssssssssssoooooooooooooo ccccccccuuuuuuuuuttttttteeeeeeee! Very Dekay-ish!

Also, they're going to take pics o'Winnie and her tank for me so I can post here. :D

Oh! The reason I mention the distance of about two hours is because here, we have not red-sided. And there, I've no idea if they have the easterns. Was trying to show like where these two subspecies live in relation to each other. Just in case ittiz important to someone for some reason.

That is what I believe the big "secret" is about feeding these. He must be up in a tree, and you must tease him with the worm, sometimes for many minutes before he strikes. Usually long after people with less patience would have given up trying.

Personally, I like hand feeding him. when he strikes, its lightning fast.

This snake will grow to be 5-6 feet long, yet stay very slender, about a roll of quarters thick tops. He eats 3-5 crawlers nearly every day:)

If I extend my arm into his enclosure, and hold still, he will climb up and use me for a tree. Never bit or musked once. The spacing on the lights is every 12 inches.

Shanely, YOU might know what that means, but I don't as I'm such a noob! LOL!

Please read "Winnie Ate a Fish." It's been updated and I don't know how to change the name of the thread and I don't want to start a new one. But the update shows I've been paying attention to what others have gone through before me and what I've read. If I must say so, yeah. I'm pretty proud o'myself. Proud because it's going to help Winnie that her dumb 'owner' is getting less dumb!

THANK YOU ALL!!!

Since this guy is so popular, here's another taken today.

The tip of Limons nose was raw when I got him. Probably from containment in the wrong kind of enclosure.

It has healed up nicely:)

Thamnophis sirtalis pickeringii? ;) Thamnophis sirtalis pallidulus? ;)

T. sirtalis parietalis is the shortest "proper" way to write it. You only abbreviate the species if the subspecies is the same, eg. T. s. sirtalis, T. e. elegans or T. p. proximus. :D There are more rules, but who cares. :D

Zephyr

I cheat and do T. s. etc
For most of them.

Stefan-A
07-01-2008, 01:23 PM
So do I, but I try to avoid it when it's possible to misunderstand what species or subspecies you're talking about.
