number of posts per page

I don't know if I am doing something wrong or what but on almost every single forum site I frequent I try to set the number of posts per page at the highest allowed (40 for this one) but no matter what I do it always seems to be set at 25. I am assuming that 25 is what most of them use as forum default.

Is this just a little joke that the owners of these site play on us unsuspecting minions. Give us a little feeling of power and then snatch it away as soon as we click the submit button.

I chose the maximum number allowed once a long time ago, haven't had any problems with it.
